We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel as though consistency has played a major role in the successes I’ve had thus far. I have been consistent in providing quality services for my clients and exceeding most of their expectations. Even on the days where I didn’t have a lot of clients and nothing seemed to be going right, I continued to put forth my best effort. Another thing is not taking everything personal. I have learned when to separate my emotions and my work. This is key because it helps one make decisions that aren’t based off emotion.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Anderson Sports and Brand Management to help professional athletes build and maintain their brand off the playing field. I chose four areas I witnessed athletes struggle in which includes: marketing, PR, community relations, and business development/management. I am most proud of being able to provide consistent services and opportunities to my clients. The road to get here was ot an easy one. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Sports Management/Marketing. I spent my first couple years working at another agency in order to get my foot in the door. I was trying to learn while catering to the needs of several athletes at the same time. My first couple years were very difficult because I recieved a lot of no’s when reaching out to athletes in hopes of working together, but I continued to learn and work for the clients I did have. That consistency helped me keep clients, and it also earned me referrals, which helped me gain new clientele.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was to be patient. A lot of things don’t happen over night. Timing is everything. Consistency is important as well. When you do something over and over again, you essentially get better. In this business, when you are consistent, people won’t forget that.

I’d like the world to know that sports is not who I am, but it is what I do. With that being said, sports have played a major role in my life for so long. So many doors have been opened. Through working in sports, I’ve been able to connect and help so many individuals. I built Anderson Sports and Brand Management to help mold men and women into better people, to teach them things they don’t know, and to ultimately help them reach their goals off the playing field.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are quite a few people that have played a major role including my friends, family members, and several others I’ve met while working in the sports industry. However, my parents have always been my biggest support system and have been with me through my ups and downs.
