We had the good fortune of connecting with Syd Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Syd, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that the most important factor behind my success has been precisely executing my vision with my visuals. When I announce that I am about to release a video, people get excited because they know it’s going to be dope. I want to continue building my brand this way and always get better.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I rap about my life experiences. I believe what sets me apart is my style and flow. It’s exciting to know that I am in my own lane and it’s wide open. I tell stories. I give hope. I inspire. I rap about real life. It hasn’t been easy to get to where I am now. As an independent artist, it’s difficult trying to balance work, life and music. And not to mention, healing from childhood trauma, If you listen to my albums in order, you will follow my journey of self-healing. I started going to therapy and realized I had to let some things go. I literally started feeling everything I’d been holding on to for years in my body.

I’ve learned along my journey to keep moving. Continue creating. When I am not feeling it and I become anxious, I become paralyzed in a sense. I don’t want to do anything but just sit. And sometimes it’s good to do that to allow myself to process, but I’ve learned that when I pick myself up and get in my zone creatively, I start feeling better.

I want the world to know that women can be a huge success in the rap without having to be sexual. I want the world to know that women can be a huge success in rap and have substance in their music. I will continue evolving and releasing good music. The music and visuals are just going to continue elevating.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love good food. I’d definitely take a friend visiting to The Battery – they have a cool Thai market over there and I love Thai food. Specifically spicy basil fried rice. The belt line also has some cool restaurants. Ponce City Market is a dope spot. Man Yeah Burger use to be my spot but they are temporarily closed. That’s some of the spots my partner and I have been going to lately.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my hometown, Cartersville, GA. That’s were I grew up and that’s where most of my support is coming from right now.
