We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Spells and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, how do you think about risk?
I believe risks are just risks no matter what risk you take, they can affect you positively or negatively. For me, every risk taken has played a major part in where I am today in my business. If it wasn’t for my strong will to be able to take those risks and learn from them, I wouldn’t be here.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Birth Doula and Placenta Encapsulation Practitioner. I provided invaluable support to birthing mothers and their families. I educate, value, listen, encourage, and support these mothers throughout their pregnancy, labor/delivery, and the postpartum period.

I owe where I am today, first and foremost to God, My family, and All of the clients who have allowed me to support them along their journey. This journey was NOT easy by far! But when God has a purpose for your life, you cannot be stopped and I will not be stopped.

I have learned that who and what is for you will be for you.

I would like the world to know that I have been blessed with a mission, a purpose, and a passion. I am dedicated to being the change and doing my part to make sure every birthing mother feels valued, heard, and seen during their birth journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The most excited interesting about being in the city is being in the city!

I always enjoy brunch at the Atlanta Breakfast Club .

I am a seafood girl, so I definitely love to visit pappadeaux and a few local crab shacks in the area.

I love shopping and seeing new things so the Krog Street Market.

I also love and enjoy visiting the rooftop at ponce city market as well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my business mentor, Sarah Butler. She has been a pivotal point in my journey! She made sure that I understood how important of a role it is to be an entrepreneur and how to navigate through my new business.
