We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Dolan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting The Peoples Hub came from wanting to help people. I had been an advice worker helping people with housing, debts, criminality, and the like through a government contract. Attending job centres, prisons, probation, and drug alcohol referral organisations, I would meet people on a one to one basis and help them overcome particular barriers. Either by helping direct or being able to refer to the right place. As in the Bob Dylan song “I [would] know who to call.”. I wanted to create something similar online. I had lived in Seattle in 1999 and was amazed at the world wide web and it’s usage in the Emerald City. From then on, I studied the maths of search engines, especially Google. Meeting my business partner, Amy Varle back in 2015 I was able to combine my digital skills with my old job of giving advice. Amy wrote a strategy to end homelessness for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and it was presented to Theresa May, the then Prime Minister of the UK in early 2018. The Peoples Hub evolved from homelessness into a wide range of issues to help local communities, using enterprising solutions.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Back in 2014 while visiting New York I was invited into the Google offices and Eric Schmidt’s office confirmed I had cracked the Google PageRank algorithm. “It’s a stochastic matrix.” So after meeting Amy Varle, we set out to put the societal issues into one place rather than being split into a political bias. As in power to the people, The Peoples Hub was created.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love this text box as the person I would like to mention mentioned these text boxes today! I know random hey.

who reached out to me in 2015 while I was sat drinking Bosnian sparkling [champagne] wine on a balcony in Medjugorje, Bosnia Herzegovina. Said he wanted to work with me on a project for humanity.
