We had the good fortune of connecting with Suntae Byers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Suntae, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Arkansas. My upbringing made me a strong individual, that’s not easily offended, and has been independent since I moved out of my parents house. It also made me want to explore fearlessly, and meet new people, and never stop learning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music has always been therapeutic to me. I’ve always recorded and wrote music throughout middle school and high school. I realized at a young age i was gifted with my voice and capability to create a story through my friends, family, associates, or maybe even my own experiences. At the time music was just a hobby that i loved, because it helped comfort and calm me down when i needed to. After Graduating in 2009 and loosing one of my best friends that also had an amazing gift in music as well (Marquis Black )Aka (Young Key) Lol omg…… Just remembering those days…, I stopped writing and recording. I moved to Dallas Texas, and was finally comfortable as a openly Gay hair and makeup artist. After about five years i moved to Houston with the desire to live in Atlanta, once i moved to Atlanta, after a wile i realized i truly wanted to become an artist. Over time about a year ago i decided to still pursue make up, but drop the hair styling to just making wigs, and take my music career more seriously.

To make a long story short, I stand here on this earth as a Black Trans Women of the LGBTQ community, accomplishing what became a dream over the years. An artist that is a jack of all trades, and it’s only a matter of time, the world will know, what i’ve known and felt my entire life.

I love telling stories and through my music, but sometimes i like poppin my (Hello!), from time to time. I love

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we would go to Hattie Marie’s to get some go old BBQ, maybe go to Lenx to shop a little. The next day I would then have my friend go to a studio session with me just to vibe and see how i create. The next day we would meet up with some of my friends to hang out, play cards and other games.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my good Friend/Sister. Chanel O’Conner, I recently started my transition a year ago. Before now i was very nervous to transition due to the amount of hate and tragic situations Black Trans Women encounter for just being who they are. Chanel has always been there as a friend, encouraging me and motivating me to keep going. She also recommended me for a reality tv show on youtube for the LGBTQ community that i actually made the cut for. Chanel has helped me realize my path and purpose.
