We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Summer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Ofela Lounge in the beginning to link AFRICAN American to west African culture through food music and communication. In addition to bridging the gap between west Africans and the Diaspora we also created a space for musicians , event promoters and dancers to be able to perfect their craft.. we are know as the Afrobeats parties, live concert, and show cases in a safe yet affordable event space
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
OFELA’S first opened one year prior to the Covid pandemic. When Covid hit, it was difficult to operate and a lounge. Luckily Ofela’s was able to keep the brand alive via the internet connecting to other like minded people around the globe. Once the pandemic past Ofela’s was now a global entity.
Which sparked the international touring.
Although, I have many success there has also been trails and tribulations through out the years. A lot of time and finances were lost for almost three year, due to the pandemic.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
