We had the good fortune of connecting with Suhyoon Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suhyoon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, when I started homebrewing kombucha, the end goal was not to be where I am today. It just so happened that there was a need in my community and I wanted to continue to be able to share my kombucha while doing so legally. I’ve found that starting a business from passion and the desire to share is what makes Beejou so successful. To me, Beejou is an extension of my soul; it is how I give back to the world and pour back into those I love. I think it’s hugely important to have a passion for something you’d like to develop into a business, however that may look.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to being a small business owner, I always like to emphasize how lucky I am to have a spouse who can put food on the table and a roof over our heads, no matter if Beejou succeeds or fails. Many small businesses owners aren’t afforded that luxury and it allows me greater freedom within my business. With that said, I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to share something I am so passionate about with my city. My mission is to make kombucha – this incredible elixir – accessible to all, which I believe we do with how we create our flavors. I am proud to be able to bring delicious kombucha to a new and budding market. Beejou exists at the intersection of food, science, love, and community.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone who told me I could.
