We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven & Kimberly McRoyal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steven & Kimberly, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Finding time to “turn off” work and enjoy time with one another and our family was a struggle in the beginning. Trying to gather and create content can take hours. Also with running an online blog trying to have the current news can require that you’re “on-call” so to speak so that you can get that content out to your viewers. Over time we came to realize that always staying on can cause burnout, quick! to avoid that it’s important to treat running an online business just like you were going into the office. The hours may change but learning when to end the workday is important so that you are well-rested and have the mental well-being to go at it another day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are the creators of Millennial Married, a community-driven platform on a mission to inspire, entertain, empower and educate millennials of color to change the narrative on how we view, create and maintain our relationships.

We think what most sets us apart from the other black love platforms on the web is that we specifically focus on developing and maintaining healthy and dope marriages. For many people that is the end goal after dating and we’re proud to have an ever-growing platform of people all over the world that want to showcase positive, fun, and healthy images of black marriage.

We would never say building this platform has been easy. In the beginning, no one could grasp the concept and honestly, there was a shortage of images that we could use to bring millennial marriages to the forefront so we started creating some of those images and concepts using ourselves, friends, and family.

Along the way, we’ve learned to not look left or right. Your voice is your voice and no one can take that from you. It makes you unique and to never give up on the idea, even if it’s one view or one like. Keep sharing what you have with the world. The people who are supposed to see it will.

As we continue to grow we would want the world to know that there are healthy relationships that can withstand some of the worst of times. There isn’t always infidelity and drama in black marriages, and it isn’t what it used to be. We can create our own blueprints mixing in the old school and new school to build strong families and communities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We got you!

Let’s take a stroll through Piedmont Park in the afternoon, maybe have a picnic or ride some bikes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is this one book by Anthony Robbins, Awaken The Giant Within that was the inspiration behind us deciding to quit our jobs and try to build something that had meaning and purpose. The whole book was about personal development and how change doesn’t have to take forever, you can follow a blueprint to wake up and start taking control of your life, starting in your mind, spreading through your body, and then through your relationships, work and finances until you’re the giant you were always meant to be.

We also can’t forget our very dear friends who encouraged us overstep of the way even when they didn’t know what the heck we were talking about when it came to a platform inspiring others about dope and healthy marriage lol.
