We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Pierce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, how do you think about risk?
I find risk taking, while difficult and a bit frightening, is generally worth it. Risk taking is what brought me to Atlanta. My wife and I moved here on a good feeling and it has paid off in more ways than one. Taking risks gave me the opportunity to navigate my career on my terms and start a life in a new city even during the pandemic!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s so funny, some days I consider what I do just a trade and others I truly feel as if I get to create art for a living. As mentioned, I am a hairstylist. I get to work with my hands to create looks that serve my clients lifestyles, give them their dream cut, or just help them prep for their big day. What might set me apart is that I actually only cut hair. I realized about a year ago that my heart wasn’t in doing color and that that was reflecting in my work. So, I decided to dedicate my time and energy to truly understanding how hair works in regards to cutting it to be of the most value for my clients. I am so proud and excited by the fact that I get to do the work I am passionate about and find individuals that also share that passion! If I’ve learned anything in my career, especially in the last year, it’s that being yourself and working hard always pays off. You attract the energy you give off, I always hope to give off the energy that I am passionate about what I do and I care about your hair.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I’m taking any friend visiting is probably one of the many great restaurant in the city. As a transplant I must say the food scene here is severely under advertised and I love that you can go weeks without going to the same place twice. Some of my favorites are Bon Ton, 8arm, Tiny Lou’s, Tacos Veloz, and golden eagle (rip). If it was a week long trip I would probably take a road trip elsewhere as well. In California if you drive four hours in any direction and you’re still in California you can get to New Orleans, Asheville, Savannah, or Nashville all in 6 hours or less and that’s so cool to me! Some of my other favorite places in the city are the botanical gardens, grant park, eav, or pretty much any brewery in town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing wife. Since day one she has challenged me to reach my full potential, been there with me through my losses, and celebrated in my victories. She really is my best friend and soulmate.
