We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie McClain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to escape the 9 to 5 rat race. During my early teenage years, I’ve always wanted to work for myself. My first job was at 14, back in 1995 I learned a lot of business skills at a Jamaican restaurant. During my mid-twenties while going to technical college, I found a love for digital marketing and started a selling books on Amazon.com back in 2010.

My medical conditions also played a factor with me starting my own business because there were so many jobs I could no longer do because of my health. I’ve been on a fixed income for over 5 years and I’m now 39 years old.

What drove me to start my own business was that I couldn’t keep a job because of my medical conditions. After getting fired, laid off, and resigning from several job that I worked I realize that jobs weren’t for me and couldn’t afford me.

I discovered my true passion at 31 that I wanted to start my own business and help people solve problems, so I got into video production and started making educational videos on social media.  Back in 2015, I received an entrepreneurship certificate from Santa Clara University which I learned about starting and maintaining a business. a got educated about business and entrepreneurship.

At 37 years old, I decided to take my talents more serious because I felt like I was wasting time with my life due to business failures. I ended up starting my own clothing company called Afrinubi (Afrinubi, LLC) back in 2017. After getting several sales, I took that business seriously.

My second business is a digital marketing company named Stephanie’s Digital Marketing Services where I offer services for businesses that need a web presence. Now, in January 2022, I have taken my business and life more seriously because I’m about to be 40 years old. My ultimate goal is to save for retirement, slowly get off government assistance, a fixed income and support my family. I would love to take care of my mom and be well off.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As a digital entrepreneur, my art of influence has been phenomenal. I’ve learned a lot and received a lot of feedback from others regarding my failures and how to gain self-confidence and ways to improve my businesses goals. What got me here was extensive training, workshops, college, and just bad life experiences. No, it wasn’t easy because I experienced quite a few medical problems I had to deal with and get help to control my medical issues. That is what held me back from accomplishing business and relationship goals.

I overcame the challenges buy getting help, verbally expressing my feelings to professionals that have real life experiences.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way, was to never give up and keep going. Also, trying my best to have a positive mindset and receiving constructive feedback has helped me along the way.

I want the world to know about me is that I’m strong minded, an overachiever, and that I’m a creative and caring businesswoman. I’m very passionate about helping others and inspiring others to do better in life and to focus on their personal and business goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I would take my friend to the beach and to networking meetings to meet positive goal minded people. As far as a long trip, I would take my friend to the mountains, water parks, the deserts, and volunteer while were on vacation. The type of food we will eat is Mediterranean foods; foods that are healthy.

The most fun times I’ve had was spending time with friends I haven’t seen in years and meeting professional people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my therapist Tameka Ruffin. She has assisted me and given me so much advice regarding being more professional and being serious with my business goals. She also has helped with mindset training, to stop the negative thinking and for me to a positive person.

I would also like to thank my mother for putting up with me as a child and giving me advice as I matured and got older.

Dave Ramsey has inspired me the most because of his business experience and his knowledge about maturing financially.
