We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was a natural progression. I do martial arts and I started filming myself with my phone to watch my progress. I would also film other stuff here and there until it became a request from the people around me. Then I purchased a camera and editing software. From there I’ve just been studying from other great people and filming whatever I could so I had more things to practicing editing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I started from a martial arts background. I have two black belts and I’m going for more. I’d say some of my success in business is definitely a testament to my friend Christina McNair. We started a clothing business together back in 2015. It was mostly her idea and she brought me along for the ride. I learned so much and still am learning so much. From that experience I’ve learned the importance of marketing and camera angles, which led to more camera work and practice. So now I’m able to help with marketing for other clothing brands. I want people to know about me is that I am learning and growing. I also want my friends and community to grow with me so other people can hear their amazing stories too. With that everyone has to work hard and when one person feels down it’s everyone else’s responsibility to lift them up.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from California, but knowing others who aren’t I think one of our biggest strengths is that we have all the seasons and different landscapes you can imagine. So if someone were to visit I would try to take them to the mountains, to the beach, on a hike, to some of the desert area, to the Hollywood walk of Fame, and to downtown Disney if we had time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentors Bry Williams and Matthew Garcia for their support and for being great listeners. My best friend Christina McNair for having adventurous great ideas. My other photographer friend Bronson Christian for pushing me to take new challenging opportunities.
