We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from the Westside of Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in a middle class black family that worked hard to provide for their family and to buy whatever they desired. I’ve always been ambitious and have had a drive to work hard to obtain anything I’ve wanted. I’ve never wanted to depend on anyone or be told no. My family has always been loving and support of all positive decisions I have made . Having that support has been a driving force for me to persevere through obstacles and henceforth reaching my success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a licensed cosmetologist of 12 years. I started out in cosmetology school. After a year and a half, I started out in a salon working hard to build my clientele. I was fortunate to have seasoned hair stylist around me to help me build my business and perfect my craft. I was nervous and fearful to market myself, worried about being told no while passing out my business card. I had goals set and I realized I could only accomplishments them by waiting for a yes and being persistent. After promoting for one year, I established a stable clientele. The road to success hasn’t been easy but I never gave up. I’ve taken some losses, physical and financial . Finding the balance between business and my personal life can sometimes be difficult but I’ve always pushed through. I will say that facing challenges throughout my adult life has contributed to my optimism in carrying out my success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As odd as this may sound, I really don’t get out much in the city. I was born and raised in Atlanta but I always ask my friends that aren’t natives to guide me to fun places. Or I google places to go in Atlanta. This city has evolved so much that my recommendations no longer exist
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I must recognize God. It is through God and my faith that I have made it thus far. I read inspirational books daily inspired by the Bible. Second, my family and close friends. Coming from a loving support family highly encourages me not to fail because I’d never want to disappointment them. Last but not least, those that have giving me words of encouragement, business advice, taught me cosmetology techniques, patrons of my business, those that advertise or refer others to me, and those in the background watching and praying over me.
