We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up is one thing that I can’t do! Mmm, mmm, I just don’t see that happening. I always say to myself “If someone else can do it-I can too!” My whole philosophy on reaching my dreams of becoming an actor and model started when I was a little girl. I have definitely had some discouraging times. But, if I didn’t stay the course-I wouldn’t have been able to participate in some great projects thus far! I’m not one to care about the odds. I just know that I have to keep going for myself and to reach my very own happy place! I want my determination to rub off on my children so that they know-you must believe in yourself and go hard if you really want it! I’m on a never settle mentality and I’m re-enlivening all of it!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For the record, acting struck a cord for me in the second grade-when I played Abraham Lincoln in a school play-lol! When I said, “Four scores and 7 years ago”- I dived into that role and it was magical! I heard the applause and I was in love with entertaining!
I get excited about performing because I know this is where I’m supposed to be! I thank god for all the auditions I get via my agency-it’s comparable to winning the lottery for me! Each activity has its on thing. In acting, it’s me finding ways to relate to the characters story-so that I can capture my authentic emotions. With voiceover, there is no camera-it is you and the mic. If you like talking to yourself in a box-you have to capture the emotions, body language, and a great imagination to be able to deliver the message. Modeling for me never gets old. It’s another form of expression for me to play dress up and then go back to being my regular self! Whenever I’m auditioning for anything-I love saying it’s “Showtime” because its my chance to shine, inspire, and motivate myself and others who also want to manifest their own creative or artistic dreams!
I’ve gotten where I am professionally because I respect people. You never know what a person is going through. I’ve had people from my past tell me that I was always nice to them. Like the great Maya Angelou said, “People might not remember what was said…but they remember how you made them feel.” Some great people that I know-see my humbleness and all I can say to them is “thank you-that’s how I was raised!”
Furthermore, I would like to say my journey has been easy-but I’ve come across people that don’t want to see you win. These people are the ones I put my blinders on for-because I don’t have room for negative energy! I’ve always leaned on optimism in my life-because I know that unfair situations don’t last forever.
Lastly, I’ve learned and I want the world to know that everybody has a choice! We should choose to keep pushing forward to become a better version of ourselves and release those things that are holding us back! Imagine how we would all be in such a better position!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay, so my best friend is visiting Los Angeles for a week long trip-its a must to hit up In-N-Out right after the airport-love their burgers! This joint is only exclusive to Southern Cali! After we get settled in at The Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey-we’re going to Venice Beach boardwalk to do some skating and vibe off the street performers and artists. Then on to Melrose for some shopping, and some eye candy! Later, we hit up The Room Hollywood for dancing and drinks and Crustacean Beverly Hills for dinner! By the end of the week, stop by The Broad Museum during the day and catch a basketball game or concert at LA Live’s Crypto.com Arena.
On the weekend, we’re going to chill and have brunch-at Bottega Louie in Downtown LA-get some rest and then off to the airport-until next time!
Some other dope places to check out in LA are the Venice Canals, Malibu Wine Safari, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Griffith Park Observatory, Universal Studios, Grand Central Market, The Original Farmers Market and Rodeo Drive!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I thank god-because none of this would be possible without him! Thank you Shoutout Atlanta for the opportunity!
I thank myself for getting my MBA in Marketing-but choosing to pursue my artistic side! A HUGE thank you to my AMAZING teenagers Cailen, Sanaiya and Kyree for keeping quiet when I’m in the booth at home or have a same day audition and have to change my schedule around a bit. A shoutout to my mom, dad, brothers and sisters for their support! I want to thank my friends Chasity and Erica for being supportive and us cheering each other on to reach our goals in life. Thank you Joy Brunson from The Joy of Acting and her team Marissa Rivera and Felipe Figueroa for their golden teaching methods! I thank DDO Artist Agency Marlene Sutton and my agents Julie Gudz, Cassie Gelfand and Candace Stewart for believing in me! Dmitri Michas, my first ever voice acting coach and Kelly Moscinski of The Voicecaster. Thank you to all the great authors that write self help books, “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Dr. Joseph Murphy and “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho! Life wouldn’t be the same without you!
