We had the good fortune of connecting with Steph Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve spent my life as a people pleasing perfectionist playing it safe, staying small and seeking permission. My measure of success was how much external validation I received.
Then when I was 40 weeks pregnant with my daughter, I got Bells Palsy. And while my medical team couldn’t pinpoint the cause, I believe it was triggered by stress and burnout. This moment became a life-changing turning point. It made me realize I was so disconnected from myself and my body that I didn’t know when to stop. This was a literal slap in the face to wake up from living for other people. I embarked on a journey to figure out who I was, who I wanted to be, what I wanted to do and how to start prioritizing myself.
In June 2021, I made the decision to leave behind my corporate marketing career to become a Life Coach. I wanted to help individuals show up and step out as their most authentic selves in all aspects of their lives. Today, I support individuals with their exploration of who they are, who they want to be and what they want to do. I’m living my dreams and I want to help them live theirs!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My dream day in Atlanta would be spent on the Beltline! First stop – Ponce City Market. I love that the space is occupied by the coolest local shops and eateries. There is something for everyone!
After all that shopping and walking, you’re probably feeling ready for a break! Next stop, Ladybird 🐞 This is my FAVORITE place to have a drink and sit outside. Also, it’s camp themed. Need I say more?!
To close out the day, dinner at Two Urban Licks for delicious food and (more) drinks. They also hold a special place in my heart because it’s one of the first restaurants my husband and I visited when we first moved here. Years later, we also hosted our rehearsal dinner here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter, Dottie. When I look into her eyes, I see the future. I see power, courage and strength to light a fire and blaze a path forward in a job or industry where she doesn’t see anyone who looks like her. I see the possibility of being whoever she chooses to be because that’s her heart’s desire. I see individuality… “why fit in when you were born to stand out?” I see the vulnerability of showing up as her authentic self. I see the curiosity of exploring and learning. Each day as I watch her mimic my actions, I realize it’s not enough to tell her these things. I have to SHOW her. And just like that my girl is already the toughest teacher I’ve ever had the pleasure of learning from. In the process of showing up for her, I am seeing that I’m showing up for myself.
My husband, Parker. It’s easy to enter into the unknown when you know there is always a safe harbor waiting for you. Parker is my safe harbor. His unconditional love, support and encouragement is the fuel that keeps me going when I’m running on empty. He holds the dream when I’ve hit obstacle after obstacle. He tells me “you can and will” when I say “I can’t and I won’t.” There are no words that can express my love and gratitude for him.
