We had the good fortune of connecting with Star Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Star, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
One of the hardest thing to do when you want to be successful and continue to be successful is creating new habits and changing your mindset. Reading is the tool to my success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have what I like to call a diverse career. I start my day as a barista ( coffee coffee connoisseur) and I end my day as a barber. Both unique in its way, but I enjoy the connections I build with my clients and customers. Whats unique about me is I don’t follow your typical rule when it comes to a career I always do what I enjoy in my life. Starting peoples day just by that simple cup of coffee I really do get a kick out of that feeling knowing that you are part of that persons day. When it comes to the barbershop I also enjoy making people look and feel good. Im beyond proud of myself because I was able to really complete every single task that I have giving myself, it was not easy but I’m still going. Im proud of everything I do, from starting in a barbershop, moving into my studio and also creating jobs for other people. Im proud me everyday! Wow getting to where I am today, I worked every single day Monday-Sunday, reading books and changing my mindset. No it was not easy, one to THE hardest thing I accomplished in life. I can say I did it without any help and when I tell you I had no help. Im proud to look at my 20yr old son and say we made it! Honestly I still face challenges in life, but I just know that what ever I put my mind to I will overcome anything, by this time in life challenges are embraced and welcome its part of life and that’s how I grow, that’s how we all grow. One of the biggest lesson is don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. That was one of my challenges, asking for help because I thought that was weak. I would love for everyone to know I put in my all into my line of work. Wether is training new staff, consulting with a new coffee shop, cutting hair, massages its something that I enjoy doing

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We definitely have to go mornings we start with coffee shop hunting, mid day local organic juice bar, book store, beach, mid afternoon snack (all local businesses of course) crystal shop, diner and dessert ( specifically gelato). End the evening with a movie or good show..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mom Luz, brothers Manny & Ricardo for the love and support they have provided. and my son Allan. Being a young mom was not easy for us, he has been my number supporter always pushing me and showing me unconditional love. Gabriel thank you for the mentorship, guidance, support and always seeing the best in me,
