We had the good fortune of connecting with Star Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Star, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I am an individual who personally focuses a lot on ethics and principle in general, but one I stand on religiously is to do everything out of love. I believe that when you do good, good comes back to you. We are all constantly sending out signals to the universe about what we want, who we want to be, and what we want out of life. I also believe that it is important to be deliberate with my words, thoughts, and actions because when those are pure even in my downfalls or moments of opposition I am able to find the path of least resistance.

What should our readers know about your business?
I would say that my business is unique because it really is so personal to me. Being able to combine my passion for gardening and cosmetics by growing the herbs used in my products I feel allows me a more intimate relationship with my customers. Like…yes I grew this for US!

In regards to how I got to where I am in business and my journey here. I don’t want to view it as hard. I would prefer to say it’s never ending learning curve. I was not exposed to entrepreneurship, so when I decided to create Oil Ethics I knew I was going to be starting at ground zero or as I like to call it YouTube University. From there, I joined groups so I could start asking those more experienced than me how to get from point A to Z. From there I really just started to tailor my searches to match whatever my need were at the moment. Whenever I don’t know something, feel stagnant, or whenever I just want to call it quits I just think “Someone has taken this same sh*t and made fertilizer out of it,” and I proceeded to go find the answers or whoever may have the answers I am looking for. That in itself is the greatest lesson that I have learned. Life does not stop so neither so we. Consistence really is key.

What do I want to know about me? The story has yet to be written. This is just the prologue. I will never quit. I will never stop creating and that I am here to stay.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok so I have recently gotten into different aspects of self care. Especially now that I am a mom. Whenever my girls come into town it is a MUST to get a mani/pedi and eat good.

We would start the day off by going to Oscar’s in Wade Hampton or the older lady in the Rose Nail Salon right around the corner. The earlier the better because it gets busy pretty fast especially on the weekends.

Afterwards, I would want to follow up with some breakfast! Downtown Greenville has some great options Eggs Up Grill and Another Broken Eggs Cafe are some of my favs! By the afternoon if we have not done a little shopping already that would be on the menu. Haywood Mall is near along with some other cool shops. I love crystals so if we were still in the area going to Greenville Gemstone Mine would be a MUST for me! I also would drag my friends into Barnes & Noble to see if we could spot anything interesting.

Later that evening we would either go get some dinner. I would want to follow up with desert maybe a little early than normal. I recently have found an absolute adorable coffee shop that makes the absolute best French pastries it is called Old Europe! After that I would want to go to a hookah lounge or cigar lounge. My go to’s are Vibez Ultra Lounge or The Cigar Experience…and then probably call it a night.

Only to repeat and hit whatever did not get done on the days before. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Man this really challenging. I really do not just have one of any of these. I read a lot of books so when it comes to literature Esther and Jerry Hicks, Wallace Walters, Ernest Holmes, and Jen Scenario are all of my more recent favorites (and I mean legit anything written by these people I have throughly enjoyed implementing into my life/business). Of course my parents for laying the “go-getter” mentality in me early and really just supporting me no matter what has happened along the way. My daughter for teaching me patience and how to love unapologetically. I would say also other young business owners such as a friend of mines her name is Andria Jones she is an amazing nail tech who just recently located to Atlanta from South Carolina. She is in owner of Bougie Boulevard (bougieblvddd on IG). She is so inspiring because she is SO CONSISTENT! To truly watch her grow and perfect her craft motivates me to just get myself together everyday!
