We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is making a true difference in our survivors lives. Most survivors don’t have support from family and friends so we step in and give support on any level. It might be a wig, food, care package gift or just financial help. If they request a wig we give them a choice knowing they will be loosing their hair after the first or second dose of chemo. They have a choice of in color, style, length, human hair or synthetic. Our goal is to make them feel whole again rather than just a number. Once they leave our shop they have the extra confidence and encouragement to overcome their illness. Understanding their story and giving them a safe place to vent and ask questions means the world to them. Better Day Giving’s isn’t a job nor hobby it’s our life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I used to be a stay at home mom and raised 3 boys along with my husband of 30 years. I’m a football mom by heart and now an empty nester. After loosing my mom in 1998, I wanted to give back so Better Day Givings was started in 2013. Before Better Day I worked as a phlebotomist for several years and now work full time as an Senior insurance representative virtual. I enjoy helping others on all levels. Life insurance and health insurance is complicated and helping one save money and increasing their benefits is essential.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to relax and indulge in great food. I would take my guest to one of my favorite breakfast spots which would be the Douceur De France bakery located in Marietta, GA. They use the finest ingredients available and their emphasis is on taste not just eye appeal. I love Italian so next stop after we digest our food would be this cozy family owned restaurant called Mambo Italian Street Food. The woodfired pizza, pasta & gelato are to die for. Everything on the menu is delicious. I love a good cup of coffee any time of the day so we will have plenty of that to keep us going. Depending on the weather and the time of year my company visits, dinner at Capers Bar and Grill near their fire pit enjoying an appetizer with a glass of red wine. After a long week of running around we would visit my church called Mission For Life in Kennesaw, GA. to give thanks and praise to Jesus Christ.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Better Day Givings was created in 2013 in honor of my mother. I didn’t know what steps to take in order for it to be successful but a dear lady by the name of Shamichael Chastang Traylor stepped in an became my mentor. She is the owner of Loving Arms Cancer Foundation in Marietta, GA. She always shared important facts and truths about the business and always made time. She wanted my organization to be just as successful as hers. I give a special thank you to my board members, Karla Moton, Veronica Harvell, Kim Waddy and Bonita Martin. Also my shoutout goes to Yvette Maynard our chaplain and certified counselor and Dawn Graham our correspondence secretary. Better Day Givings wouldn’t have survived without our sincere supporters. Thank you all for believing in Better Day Givings and walking alongside us in our journey..
