We had the good fortune of connecting with South Rome and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi South Rome, what do you attribute your success to?
I think what’s most important to my success is not being afraid to be myself even when it’s then opposite of what everyone else is doing. Staying true to me and doing what actually makes me happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I became interested in music at a young age because I didn’t have many friends growing up due to my awkwardness and music gave me a space to express myself. The road was never easy and many times I wanted to give up after some battles with personal demons and depression. I pushed through because I want to show anyone dealing with what I deal with that it is possible to be successful. I’ve learned that perfection doesn’t exist we just have to be the best us we can be nobody can beat you at being you. We wear smiles and scars but every second we are still here is another second to be better.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to check out the 21C museum in Durham from time to time. You definitely have to try Lee’s kitchen for some good Jamaican food and there are some really dope live music spots and karaoke nights at a few places (the house in Durham, Touchdown in Raleigh, Justin’s in Durham)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out 4phones Ent. For allowing me to be myself and pushing me to go harder even when I feel like i can’t push myself.
