Meet Sounds By Coop | Music Producer, Songwriter & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sounds By Coop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sounds By Coop, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. Then, at age 6 or 7, moved to Orlando, where I lived with my mother and siblings until about age 13 before moving to my current location in Georgia. It’s easier to say I’m from Orlando, primarily for the fact that the time spent there was very formative to my development as a youth, and the birthplace of my love for creating music.
Growing up in Orlando, I didn’t have many musical influences – not in my family nor in the neighborhood. Although my brother did play trumpet in middle school, that didn’t influence me in any way. What propelled me was the abundance of curiosity I possessed as a kid, wanting to try my hand at everything that crossed my mind – from drawing/art, which everyone said I was great at, to sports, being a naturally athletic and energetic child, to then taking an interest in music and forming various boy bands with the homies.
None of the bands stuck until about age 11 when I met my good friend William, who was also into music and had amazingly supportive parents who encouraged us to write raps, make songs, perform for them in the living room, attend local talent shows, etc. I’m truly grateful for their constant support and encouragement, building up our confidence and putting the battery in our backs to where we really believed in ourselves and made major plans for future. This taught me a lot about having strong intentions, the value of patience and putting in the work to see things through to the end.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I value most about being a musician is the idea of creating something from nothing. You approach a blank canvas and let your imagination and intuition take the wheel. I’m still always amazed at the times when I’m bored or uninspired and fiddle around with different ideas for beats/songs and stumble across some unexpected heat. Not many things come close to the feeling of when you’re immersed in deep work and you manage to tap into some other level of consciousness where you’re completely zoned in, and nothing exists outside of you and your art – you’re one with the art as it’s being made. It’s an elusive high that we all chase, from the time of our first ‘hit’ until the end of our creative lifetime. Where this chase leads you in life and business is to be determined.
Although I’m not where I plan to be just yet, I am proud of the journey thus far and super grateful for the lessons and growth I’ve gained along the way. I can look back and clearly see where and when I improved creatively, where I may have made a misstep professionally, and all the memorable snapshots in between that lead me to where I am today and propel me into tomorrow.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I gotta give a shout out to William “Bizzo” Banks, the man I start my music journey with, as well as the many talented musicians I’ve encountered on this journey. Also my good friend Adeniyi Sajimi, who has been a pillar of support in my life since about age 17.
