Meet Soryorelis Henry | APRN, CEO La Isla

We had the good fortune of connecting with Soryorelis Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Soryorelis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There’ aren’t many authentic homemade restaurants around. I wanted to bring our culture to the town and also wanted to offer not only Puerto Rican food but authentic homemade Puerto Rican food.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m very proud that we were able to bring our culture to Hamden. My mother and father came to this country with hopes of providing a better life for us. Shortly after our father was killed by a police officer and our lives changed drastically. I watched my mother do her best to provide so she was a great example of resilience. I made it this far in life thanks to Gods grace & promises, by finding motivation despite what is going on around me, consistency, adapting to change, determination, confidence, and focus. It was not easy at all. I had my moments. Faith goes a long way but of course you have to put in work. I’ve learned to trust myself and how to cut distractions. When you come to La Isla you’re going to feel like you’re visiting your favorite aunty and eating a meal grandma prepared for everyone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Going downtown is a must. We’d go support other local small businesses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my number one supporter and encourages me following my dreams and goals.
