We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Fain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved anything to do with architecture or decorating! As a kid, I’d pore through house plan books just for fun and style various areas in our home. But instead of doing anything in that field, I got a bachelor’s degree in marketing and then went on to become a personal trainer and owned various other businesses. But in 2019, my husband and I were the contractors for building our own home. I personally designed the exterior and interior and worked tirelessly to create a unique but comfortable space for our family. I loved every element of designing the spaces. I started dreaming about helping others with their own homes. Before I knew it, I was taking classes on interior design and had my own clients. So in the spring of 2020, Sophia Fain Interiors was born! I stopped personal training and dove headfirst into every project I could find, including home remodels, new construction, and businesses.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m an interior designer that hasn’t turned down a job yet! I have done everything from shopping with clients in person, tiny remodels, large scale new construction, designing businesses, styling, and anything in between. My motto was no job was too little for me as long as it was getting my name out. So I started posting and offered competitive pricing at first to build up my client base. I learned quickly that I can’t answer every call/text/email on weekends and still be a good mom. That was a hard lesson learned because at first I just wanted to make sure I went above and beyond for every client. But that work-to-life balance is so important. I’m slowly learning it’s okay to get back to people on Monday. I’ve met the most incredible people with interesting stories that I can help share through the design process. I don’t really have a go to style when it comes to my clients; I just tailor the design to what fits their personality best. I’ve been so blessed with multiple repeat clients that I’ve now worked with for over 4 years. They become like family to me. Remodeling and building are hard times in people’s lives, and my goal is to make it as easy for them as possible. I love when a client says how much less stressed they are because of me! The satisfaction from helping a client achieve a restful, beautiful home is the driving force behind my job.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where I live, the mountains are the thing to see! A few of my favorite stops would be a beautiful but hilly hike up Mount Yonah or Raven Cliffs to take in the amazing views and then lunch at Clyde’s on the square in Cleveland. NoFo Brewery is another great spot to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy some local cuisine. The north ga mountains are famous for Helen, the German town full of personality! They have water tubing in the summer that’s very popular as well as great shopping. Wineries are everywhere here, all with pretty great views. For a low key visit, CeNita Vineyards is my personal favorite, but the view from The Cottage Winery or Yonah Mountain Vineyards is breathtaking! If you are visiting Helen, I recommend Bigg Daddy’s for dinner and Hofer’s Bakery for breakfast! The local grocery store Betty’s Country Store has been there for years and has an old timey vibe that’s great!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of people deserve credit for helping me in this journey, most of all my supportive husband! He has always pushed me to do what I love even if it was scary to start something completely new that could possibly fail. My mom and sisters were also always encouraging me to go for it. But the moment I really credit it to is my friend Tera and I were running one day, and she just said “Sophia, just go for it.” I felt right in that moment that I was ready to start a whole new career and do it. So I went home and paid for a website to be made and started taking pictures of my house for marketing.
