We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonja Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonja, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been creative and artistic ever since I was a child around 6-7 years of age. My passion came in full circle during Covid. At that time I was still working and I could not get my nails or toes done because the salons were not allowed to open during the pandemic. I had to figure out a way to do my own nails and toes. I decide to wear press on nails until the pandemic blows over, I guess everyone else had the same idea because I could not find any ones I like or they were completely sold out. I decided to google what I needed to design my own once I knew what I needed I order my supplies which came just in time because soon thereafter the mail services discontinued shipping for a while. Let’s just say I fell in love with designing press on nails and toenails. I have also expanded my business to include children’s nails, dog paws and cat claws that include matching outfits. I have to say the pandemic was a blessing in that it afforded me the time and desire to create press on nails it is now something I am very passionate about when I’m designing nails it does not feel like work I’m having fun doing what I love and that’s being an artist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently work in a pharmacy I have been working in this field for over 20 years. Working with the public has made me sensitive to others needs. It has also given me patience. I want everyone to know I absolutely LOVE designing nails it relaxing to me. If I win 10 million dollars today I would still design nails. Working a 9-5 five days a week and still designing nails can be challenging but I do it for the love of nails. I am where I am today because of being determined and having a good support system . If I design you a set of press on nails or press on toenails know that love went into each and every design.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in New Orleans so any place you choose is a fun spot. I love good food so I would most definitely take my bestie to one of Larry Morrow’s restaurants. Morrow Steak house is classy and chic. Excellent food and drinks. I also have a sweet tooth so ordering beignets is a MUST with a cup of coffee. I also love to shop so we have to stop by the River Walk it’s a mall located by the Mississippi River. And to end our week a daiquiri is a must here in New Orleans we have drive through Daiquiri shops. Last but not least spending time with my family I’m blessed to be surrounded by love

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my biggest supporter my daughter Alexis. She has always believed in me and has continued to push me to keep moving forward. I would also like to thank my son Anthony for always telling me and I quote “Mama you got talent girl”. A huge shout out to my mother Bernice for buying me my first set of colored pencils and a sketch pad. Last but not least I would like to thank my supporting husband Oscar for telling me all the time he has my FRONT,BACK, and SIDE. And that I can do anything if I put my mind to it.
