Meet Solomon Smith | Producer, Creative Director, & Business Advisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Solomon Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Solomon, what’s your definition for success?
I define success by the amount of effort I put into something. I can only worry about what I have control over. Showing my array of talents and giving my all to my work is success to me. I believe that if I can stay consistent with that, using my God-given talents, I will fulfill my purpose and that will be my success. As far as monetary goals or notoriety, those aren’t factors I’m too concerned with. I just believe I have a responsibility to use whatever “gifts” with which I have been blessed. Art is subjective, so being content with whatever piece I make is success. I hold myself to a high standard in that regard.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My medium of choice, passion, and expression is music production. My taste is my distinguishing feature. I was blessed with good taste I honestly thank God every day for it. It has allowed me a safety net for exploration and evolution, it’s something I can always rely on. It can be learned over time but I feel I had a head start in that way.
However, I owe a lot of my professional progression to discipline. My parents have a military background, so the structure they instilled helped me channel my creativity and give it purpose. Ultimately though the point I’ve reached in my journey was achieved by faith, dedication, long hours honing my craft, and learning myself through experiences, and from the greats before me. It hasn’t been easy so far, and I’m expecting it’ll only get harder, but the journey is my reward. Anything worth having is worth working for.
One thing that helps make things easier is remembering that not everyone has to understand or believe in my vision to make it valid or worthy. My faith and belief are reason enough to bring my creations to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’ll kick things off with brunch at Hero in downtown, paired with bottomless mimosas. Then head over to Deep Ellum before it gets too late in the night. Check out the latest street art murals, and maybe even catch a live graffiti art session. Then maybe head over to Twisted Root Burger and walk through the Dallas Arts District.
Always can hit some rooftop bars in Downtown Dallas for skyline views and drinks. Spots like The Statler, Vidorra, and Starr. A nice spot to catch a show is at The Granada Theater. Always can grab so food after at Henderson’s Chicken or Fuel City Tacos. Cool spots to walk or just chill are the Katy Trail and Reverchon Park. Possibly catch a Rangers or Cowboy’s game depending on the time of year.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God first, I can do all things through him. I wouldn’t be where I am at all without His grace, mercy, and blessings. Next would be my parents. They gave me the foundation that allows me to be the individual I am today. The power of knowledge was ingrained in me from an early age so books have always been a big source of inspiration and guidance but a couple that stand out due to their impact on my current perspective are:
Why should white guys have all the fun? – Reginald F. Lewis
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant – Eric Jorgenson
The Measure of a Man – Sidney Poitier
I feel these books in a lot of ways changed my trajectory.
