Meet Skitz Pittz: Rapper & business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Skitz Pittz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skitz, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor to my success is my belief in God. I don’t refer to myself as religious because I believe in all religions that preach doing good things so I prefer being spiritual. Without God none of the things that I have been able to accomplish would be possible. My belief in myself and God not letting me fail keeps me afloat.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Music has been apart of my life for a very long time. I started out writing short stories and entering poetry contests as a youth. It wasn’t until the age of 12 when I would write my first rap. My musical journey has been an experience to say the least. Although I believe 1000% in myself now it wasn’t always that way. Up until I moved from Valdosta 6 years ago I did not believe it was possible for me to make it far n the industry. My talent was never the question, it was more-so my location. Being from Valdosta Ga, we didn’t see many people make it out and become a success without playing sports or going to college and becoming a doctor or something. I figured I would have to leave Valdosta to make the dream come true. I moved to Atlanta and jumped right in. I realized quickly that it takes a lot of time and patience to build a successful fanbase. Coming from Valdosta I was naive. I felt that as if all I had to do was move to Atlanta and everything would change for the better. In a sense it did but it wasn’t as smooth sailing as I anticipated. I attended The Art Institute of Atlanta for audio production, interned, did open mics, whatever I had to do to get involved in the industry. Interning got me in the door to the right crowd. Persistence is what helped me overcome every challenge and the idea of not taking no for an answer. If you want it, go get it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is a great city with a-lot of things to do. The pandemic has slowed a lot down but there is still many ways to have fun. However this visit I want to paint the picture of Atlanta with no Covid regulations. I am pescatarian sso I would take my fried to Juicy Crab for the crab legs and drinks once they arrive. We can check out the parks and attractions during the day. Get Juicy Detail plant burgers for lunch and go to the strip club for dinner. I am definitely a lover of food so I will show all the good food spots. Strip clubs are lit too although they shut down my favorite one during the pandemic (Follies) Blue flame is a good one too. As far as locations I like exploring all that Atlanta has to offer. Show you the million dollar houses and the projects in the slums. And of course show you the studios and let you see how the magic happens.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My life was in shambles for a very long period of time filled with the struggle of finance and peace of mind. One of the last jobs I worked was about 6 years ago at Olive Garden. I was a certified trainer there but I felt as if the pay was just not enough. A management position opened up and the rest of the managerial staff was certain that I would be chosen for the position. Upon the selection they gave the position to a person that I had recently trained. At this point in my life it felt like that decision was confirmation that this is not what I should be doing, so I quit. I did not have any plan B or C but I realized my worth and that job as not a part of my destiny. I worked one more job before jumping off the cliff completely. It was a windshield repair company that was based off commissions. I feel as if the job was needed to expand my mind into the ideas of not working for a paycheck. It was there where I met a great friend named Benjamin Williams, who assisted me in my growth. Ben, ironically was from the same place I was from, ” Valdosta Ga.” We had never met before but we knew the same circles. I believe that the universe conspires in our favor every minute to set up life changing interactions like these. My entire life I have always had deeper thoughts about God, the universe and life in general. Before meeting Ben I never felt comfortable enough to discuss that side of me with other people. Ben also put some new perspectives in my life as such as meditation, prayer and how to pray. One night Ben and I were chilling and talking or what not and we did a powerful prayer. The prayer was simple and more like a promise to myself, ” Ill never be broke again” Along with the prayer I had to agree to challenge myself to meditate 30 days straight. Ben told me that he too was in a dark place before in life and had meditated 30 days straight and it changed his life. As I stated before my life was in shambles so I would do almost anything to acquire peace and stability. So I agreed to hold my self accountable to complete the task. I cut out all negative thoughts, social media and tv. I had to only think positive thoughts, meditate and express more gratitude for the next 30 days. Upon starting it was not easy. “It wont be easy bro.” Ben said. “You have to realize that you are breaking a habit of not meditating since you’ve been alive.” The words were powerful and I stuck with it. Ben also had a moving company of his own and offered me employment during the challenge. I was grateful for the work and worked hard to maintain the reputation of the company my friend had built. But it was never enough. I ended up quitting the windshield repair place and set my ventures out on being my own boss. Ben pointed me in the right direction on how to achieve what I was seeking. I cant remember exactly what day but maybe about 3 weeks in something inside me changed. I felt so much peace and abundance coming from inside of me. Up until that time i had never smiled like that. By the time I finished the challenge everything was different. With the help of Ben I had not only found peace but I had been able to start my own company that provides me with everything I need financially. After the challenge I not only was able to help myself financially but also able to help other young people who were lost trying to find there way just like me and Ben.
