We had the good fortune of connecting with Jariel Jones also known as Skate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skate, what do you want your legacy to be?
That’s a tough question because I honestly feel like I barely even got started yet so I haven’t really thought about what I want my legacy to be or what I want people to remember about me. But to answer that question, I want my legacy to be that I was true to myself and didn’t act a certain way or follow the crowd to fit in. I don’t fit in. Never did. Never wanted to. I do my own thing. That I was unique. A family man with a caring, genuine and pure heart. A person that stood up for what they believe in. A person that did his best to change lives for the best genuinely and put others in a position to win. A person that open the doors for many other people chasing their dreams. That’s what I want my legacy to be and what I want people to remember about me. I want to be remembered as hard working and dedicated. A go getter!!!!!! Rather than an icon I want to be an inspiration.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Founder and CEO of Feed The Streetz Foundation. Feed The Streetz Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on alleviating homelessness, poverty, hunger, disaster relief and emergency relief. With genuine, pure hearts, our mission is to change the world by offering compassionate care to those in our community who need it most. We do so by supplying our homeless brothers and sisters with essential resources many people take for granted such as food, clothing, and basic toiletries. Other efforts include mentoring our homeless community and helping them develop and obtain the necessary skills and items to gain employment and get off the streets. In supplying these fundamental resources, we also hope to curb drug addiction.
I think what sets Feed The Streetz apart from others is that we are very humble and genuine. When we promote our events, we are promoting to get people in the community to come out and help the homeless and others who need assistance.. We promote to bring awareness to poverty, hunger and other issues as well as promote our organization and mission so that we can continue to give back genuinely. We don’t promote to take pictures and record videos of people down on their luck. We don’t take pictures of ourselves and record videos of ourselves just to post them on social media hoping we go viral and chase clout. We are very genuine with pure hearts. I think that is what make us different from a lot of people and organization.
We host over 100 events a year and a lot of people and organizations are not doing that nowadays but we do. Humbly speaking, this is not to boast, it’s just to let you know how serious and consistent we are about doing positive work in communities. Being able to change people’s lives for the better and put smilies on their faces is a good feeling especially when it’s pure.
I am proud and excited about a lot of things. We have big plans in the future with GOD’s help that we haven’t announced yet. As of right now, I know for a fact the thing I am most proud about is the entire organization and I doing GOD’s work and pushing through every adversity.. When you see that you are able to help someone, it’s a different feeling. It inspires myself, the organization and others to keep bringing positive change in the community.
So far where I am today was definitely not easy and it was not by luck. Where Feed The Streetz is today so far was not easy and it was not by luck. There are instances where luck can happen, but it’s no luck this way. We work hard every day all day. Definitely wasn’t easy. We overcame challenges through a lot of prayer, a lot of faith, a lot of hard work, and consistency. Faith without work is dead. We also overcame a lot of challenges through team effort. A small team with genuine hard workers all doing their best towards the mission.
When it comes to more of what I want the world to know about me, Feed The Streetz and the story of Feed The Streetz I plan to discuss that in the book that I am releasing call “Feed The Streetz”. I plan to release it in January 2022, so that’s when you can find that out by reading the book. It’s going to be a great book with purpose behind it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ughh! Mhmm.. where would I take my best friend visiting the area? You picked a tough time to ask that question while we are still in a pandemic. I’m not trying to get sick, so I really don’t be trying to go anywhere right now unless I have to like for school because I am in college or for one of our events, something related to Feed The Streetz or a meeting. Every now and then I will go somewhere to have fun and enjoy myself. So to answer that question, umm I will probably take them to the Hawks game. I am a huge Basketball fan. I can watch and play Basketball all day every day.
Restaurants..,mhm I will definitely take them to Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse be bussing lol. To visit and hang out, I will probably say Six Flags. I can’t really think of anything else right now off the top of my head.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves a lot of credit and recognition. My family have supported me literally from day 1. They see the blood, sweat, and tears I put into Feed The Streetz and in the community. The hard work, dedication and consistency I put in towards Feed The Streetz Foundation and genuinely giving back to the community. The number events we do each year doesn’t go unnoticed by my family. From Day 1 they have always helped me 100% and continue to help me 100% through any and everything. They push me to keep going and motivate me. Without my family, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I also give credit and recognition to myself. It is not easy being a leader of a nonprofit organization. You have to stay on point at all times, be well organized and consistent. At any time an situation can come up. Especially when there is a crisis situation unexpectedly such as a disaster and emergency relief is needed. We have to be able to move quickly and efficiently. It can be a lot which it is but with me being very passionate about what I do it never get to me. I continue to push through everything and make stuff happen even when it seem impossible I don’t give up. I find motivation in just about everything.
