Meet Sir Abstraxxx | Poet, MC, Event Curator, and Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sir Abstraxxx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sir, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Charlotte, N.C. I come from a loving and nurturing family full of mostly woman and a few men, so my connection and understanding of how to be a leader and gentleman comes from that upbringing. Im the only child and grew up in a single parent home with my mother. Me and her are best friends and I will ride for her till the wheels fall off. My upbringing impacted me by helping me understand what it means to be caring and loving in a very intentional way, learning from my grandfather I was taught how to be a gentleman, how to be cool, calm, and collected even in moments of adversity, how to lead with your heart than your mind, and last to be spiritually in-tune.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Poet and I have been writing poetry since I was 12. Ive always had love for art specifically rap, wordplay or anything involving creative wordplay. I made an attempt to be a rapper by trying to write to Jay-Z’s The Prelude and failed miserably. So I started writing without music and it came out amazing or so I thought. After that day I kept writing more acapella pieces and then finally discovered that I had been writing poetry all alone. Once I turned 19 I did my first open mic and slam competition and the rest is history.
I can’t say what sets me apart from others, but I will say that fashion, music and art has always been my loves and always try to include those elements in my events that I host in Charlotte. You don’t hear too many poets talk about love and the details of it, especially from a male and I love love so much because I believe its the root of all things.
I got where I am professionally just by simply not giving up. Charlotte is not a place where art succeeds unless It ha certain aspects to it, so building my own following and support system is where I saw fit and decided how to push forward snd I am truly thankful. I realized that I had to learn business especially the business of nightlife, working with clubs, creating business models and deals that help me get what I deserve while also fulfilling of the venues I work with. its never easy but nothing that Is worth it is.
I have learned that leading with proper intentions and knowledge of self and self worth is what needed most especially when speaking with business individuals. Be confident in your art and that you and what you do is purposeful in this world.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that Sir Abstraxxx is the man and “Eclectic Soul Sessions” is the brand and through quality curation as an individual and brand we are experiences through poetry that will be known throughout the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you don’t know anything else about Charlotte understand that you will always eat and have a spot that serves great cocktails. Art also holds a very vital lifeline to the Charlotte atmosphere buts it not just in the museums.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate who I am and where I’m at to my family, my close friends and loved ones, all my mentors, and mostly the people that have been supporting my events, my craft for the past 12 years.
