We had the good fortune of connecting with Sinly Sivongsay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sinly, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
My location. I decided to take a gamble and rent an office in Cumming with little to no clientele. In my first year, I worked 7 days a week to build my dream business. This is my career and passion.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed esthetician and owner of Sinsa Beauty in Cumming, GA. I specialize in acne management and corrective result-driven facials.
I’m different from many spas because I offer a personal approach to facials and skincare. I book one appointment at a time and give you my undivided attention. You will continue to see me for every appointment. I will get to know your skin very well and build a relationship with you. My facials are unique because not only am I correcting your skin concerns but I’m also giving you a relaxing experience that includes face, neck, and decollete massages. Each facial is tailored and customized to your needs. I am very good at customizing home skincare routines. I believe you can maintain the health of your skin and/or change your skin concerns by having the correct skincare to use at home and facials.
I became a solo esthetician 2 years ago. In my first year, I worked 7 days a week to build my business by the second year I was able to take some weekends off and work less. I wore many hats and it was stressful. I have learned that I can outsource many business tasks that I can’t do on my own. It has helped me a lot.
I’m constantly learning from other estheticians, doctors, and companies. You cannot stop learning because it’s forever changing. I’m constantly researching products and skincare ingredients. There is so much information and trends about skincare on the internet and also many good and bad products to buy, you have to be prepared for what will walk through your door and be able to thoroughly do a skin consultation and help your client.
I worked hard to build my business in hopes that one day I don’t have to work hard.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ride bikes at the Beltline in the afternoon then stop to have lunch on the beltline. Dinner at Umi then drinks at Himitsu. I love speakeasies!
On another day we can get massages (I love being pampered) in the afternoon.
Shop at Ponce city market then eat and drink at 12 Cocktail Bar upstairs (another speakeasy!)
On Tuesday, $1 oysters at Capt Loui.
Chateau Elan has a really nice bar/speakeasy inside the hotel.
Happy Hour at Bastone
Lunch at Chirori – Omakase and Sushi
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Vinny King. He supported me financially when I quit my job to go back to esthetician school and after I graduated. After graduation, I worked 2 different jobs at 2 different spas to build experience making very little. He took the financial stress from me as he worked 2 jobs to support our family. It allowed me to build my business and figure out my niche as an esthetician because of his support.
