We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Edmonson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been a entrepreneur and owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. I worked in corporate America for 20 years with this dream of business always or the forefront of my mind. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted the business to be but I always loved business. I’ve tried many many unsuccessful businesses along the way. Dreams and Jammies came about from a conversation with my sister regarding the lack of representation in retail. That conversation challenged me to build a pajama line to include designs that are inspired by Black and Brown children.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dreams and Jammies was created for our beautiful girls of color who often go unrepresented and unseen. We are the First Black Owned Kids Sleepwear Line inspired by Little Black and Brown Girls. What sets us apart from others is our ability to promote Black and Brown excellence while creatively inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs. Our designs empower, builds self-esteem and encourage our prince and princesses to dream.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely start the week off with self care including a facial from Crystal at Lofty Lashes in John’s Creek followed by visiting KC’s Nail and Brow Xclusivez in Snellville, GA and a visit with Lauren Hunter Beauty (www.styleseat.com/m/v/laurenhunterbeauty) for a set of microlinks. Atlanta has some of the best restaurants. We would stop by BLU Seafood House in West Midtown, Atlanta. Other great restaurants to visit for seafood is FISH Thyme in Acworth, GA and Green Love Kitchen in Lithonia, GA for some delicious vegan food. Atlanta Black History & Civil Rights Tour would be on the itinerary as well. We would stop by Purple Corkscrew Wine Shop for a tasting. And for some great soul food Belinda’s Southern Cuisine in Stonecrest, GA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is a priceless gift greater than anything that I could imagine. I am so appreciative to have the loyal, supportive and caring family that I do. I could have not gotten this far without them.
