We had the good fortune of connecting with Sicarah Lashay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sicarah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risks are great because you never know what the outcome may be unless you give it a try. When I was 21 I would go to concert venues and bring my camera, say I am media and get into the event even though I didn’t have a press pass. This method did not work all the time but nevertheless I still made it into some pretty cool events. I knew I could get footage outside the venue and maybe even catch a few fan reactions regardless of if I made it into the event or not. I would go to events by myself and introduce myself to people in the room and network. Even if they do not give me their phone number or email right away, at least they would have seen my face and I had the opportunity to share my brand with them and vice versa.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a blogger, host, videographer and photographer. I am most proud of the interviews I have conducted so far. I have interviewed Sheff G, Sleepy Hallow, Maino, Dave East, Uncle Murda, PNB Rock, Dutchess and Ceasar from the Black Ink Crew, Lil Tay and more. I interned at Bad Boy Entertainment and then worked as a Freelance Production Assistant for BET. I would also just go to celebrity events and introduce myself. It was hard because I would work during the day and then travel 40 minutes to 1 hour to get to the city by public transportation just to try to get into events. At the time I didn’t have a portfolio so I knew it was a 50/50 chance I could get into events. I would also go to nightclubs where I knew an artist would be performing just so I could become familiar with their team and get footage. I knew if I had the footage and tagged the artist there is a chance either the artist or their team would see it. I learned not to get discouraged when other people do not see your vision. Everyone around me thought I was crazy at first when I would say I’m going to the club to record an artist performing. They knew I didn’t know the artist and clearly wasn’t getting paid so to them it seemed like a waste of time. Now my YouTube channel has over 2 million views and it is monetized. I want the world to know I work hard and my goal is to have my own talk show. I want to be able to interview the top artists in the world. I believe any and everyone can accomplish their dream as long as they do not give up and continue to work hard and be creative.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t know where to start. I would say Buddakhan, Tao Downtown, Cafeteria, Sylvia’s, Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge are all restaurants I would eat and drink at. I know I am missing some but that’s what immediately come to mind. I think taking pictures by the west side highway is a must by the water. We must also visit Dumbo Brooklyn and take more pictures,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Above all, I thank God for my ideas and ability to create.

My mom plays a major role in my career. She would tell me all throughout my childhood I could do anything I put my mind to and I always believed her. Through her confidence in me I knew the sky was the limit. And even now my mom encourages me to this day.

When things get tough my dad is always there to tell me to keep going and share ideas with me.

Nick Storm believed in me from the start and always gave me an opportunity to network and be in the rooms that no one else could get into. He would show me new skills and always tell people about my strengths.

Eric Rhett would always think of me when new production gigs would become available. Through his belief in me I was able to pick up so many skills and receive opportunities of a lifetime.

Avery Watson would invite me to interview artists very early on in my career. I appreciate that because its hard to get people to trust you with artists.

Damon Campbell and Kyree Frazier would send me tons of event invites. Those invites really helped me network and meet the right people.

I’m very blessed and there’s a lot of people who contributed to my journey so far, too many to name but I really love and thank everyone who have believed in me so far. So shoutout to y’all!
