We had the good fortune of connecting with Shy Base and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shy, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite affirmation is I’m the Bag. I love this affirmation because it helps me remember that I can always create something out of nothing. It also reminds me that with every step that I take in my life I can succeed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all about color combination and execution I love how in every type of art I create each project has its own personality. I am always excited to post a new project because I have reached a new level each time. The Journey to where I am today always makes me chuckle. I always knew I wanted to be a multi-faceted creative, from watching popular music videos and awards shows on B..E.T., MTV., and Vh1. I always loved seeing every aspect of the shows from the fashion, to the choreography, to the stage layouts, and how they ran. I laugh at that because most of my life as an adult and I was into culinary although a different art form not too far from the form of art I focus on most now, fashion. It seemed very hard at first to get into fashion. I have always styled my friends and liked fashion, I just never thought to do it as a business. Finally starting getting serious about creating in 2017 helped me realize I love creating. That burst of energy helped me create Base Concepts which is my brand that is the umbrella company for all my creative projects. It took me a while to start sharing all of my creative sides because I was anxious about how it would be perceived. The rise of Covid-19 pushed me into releasing more projects. It has been an interesting journey but I am thankful for the journey. Perseverance is the word I would use to describe how I got here today. My art is always about living life to the best of your ability, reminding people of how beautiful they are, and nothing is unattainable. My story is one of perseverance, love, and openness. I am ready to show you all my new creative art forms from me and thank you for the support.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friend would have a fun time. I would take them to the beach, shopping downtown, skating at and to an amusement park all on different days. I would take her to a few of my favorite food places like Berthas, Nigels, Tiki Taco, and some southern fast-food staples if they don’t live by those restaurants. We would most likely go to XO Hookah Lounge, or The Posh Bar depending on the night. My favorite type of places to go are places that have a sense of adventure and history to them, I like chill vibes if I go out to a bar or club. I think every place I go has good activities to participate in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will like to dedicate this to my family, I have met some amazing people over the years but, my family ceases to amazing. I am in tune with so many great, and inspiring humans.
