We had the good fortune of connecting with Shwetha Anand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shwetha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business spontaneously when I quit my full-time job as a Textile Designer. Once I got project requests from clothing brands, I moved forward from one client to another. My goal has been to deliver designs as per my client specifications and timelines. Three years of running my business very profitably and successfully!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My main line of work is digital textile prints and fashion design. USA Clients approach me for custom patterns for their brands. I got recognized and honored by both my alma maters. I was awarded the Young Alumni Award by PSG College of Technology (India) in March 2022. Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) shuttle buses that ply the streets of Atlanta and Savannah, GA, were fully wrapped with my print designs from the SCAD student days. The same design was displayed at Trois Art Gallery, SCAD Atlanta. These accolades have been great recognition for my hard-work and business. It has been 3 years since starting my business and running it with significant growth. I can create any pattern a clothing brand is looking for, and that helps maintain my client network. My work has been worn by many USA celebrities such as Miss USA Asya Danielle, Vogue Editor Rawdah, Super-model Jasmine Sanders, Disney star Halle Bailey, etc.

I have been relentless with resources and networking, which helps grow my business. Collaborating with very talented artists has been a great learning experience and has helped gain clients through word-of-mouth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My top favorite spots in Atlanta are Atlantic Station, The Beltline, Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market. The people are always very friendly and there is plently of diversity. I am Indian and never felt out of place. Atlanta is home to me and I can never love it any less!

If I had a week in Atlant just to explore, this is what I would do:
– Visit SCAD FASH Museum of course! I worked there for a year as a Museum Docent and the experience was so fulfilling. So many world-renowned designers bring in their archival pieces for display.
– I would spend a day at Ponce city market, trying the plethora of foods available. Walk by the Beltline and watch the sunset by the parks. Then I would walk to Krog street market for dinner!
– Piedmont Park is a great place to relax with friends and take beauiful pictures.
– I would visit Buckhead Village District to experience a luxury environment. The branded shops and of course, Amorino for their artistic gelato ice creams.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Alma Mater – Savannah College of Art & Design, Atlanta My masters degree at SCAD played a major role at kickstarting my career in the USA. The resources and network provided by SCAD are unmatched. I benefit from my SCAD Alumni resources to this day.
