We had the good fortune of connecting with Shuvar Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shuvar, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
So i was literally having this conversation with a colleague recently. The hard part about being a creative is finding a way to monetize your art and still be able to pay your bills. Over the years I’ve maintained a decent balance between working in corporate America and following my artistic pursuits. I remember sitting at my desk one day and the girl across from me was lowly singing a song on the radio and I’m like you have an amazing voice. She said she was a singer but really only on the weekends or at karaoke. It hit me then that there comes a time where you really have to make that choice between the two. And it’s not that one begins to priority over the other but that they both become equally important. I’ve definitely found that the times I’ve poured more into my creative the more it flourishes and vice versa. Does that mean that you may be a little late on a bill from time to time yes but ultimately the Universe gave you your talents so that you can complete your mission and if you believe that and follow it your needs will be met.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
On the corporate side I have spent the last 20 years in Finance and Consulting. I am a Mortgage Lender with 20 years experience and have worked with countless families and individuals helping them purchase their homes and investment properties and also showing them how to leverage the equity to build wealth, start business and eliminate debt. For the past 10 years i have worked in Professional Services Consulting helping businesses of all sizes, from small one man operations to fortune 100 companies like Ford, Dominos and Uber to help manage their workforce and streamline their back office processes.
On the creative side i have been working in the entertainment business for over 15 years. I started out promoting parties and worked with some major names such as Rick Ross and Drake bringing them to Charlotte early in their careers. I went on to work for BadBoy South in tour management and then ultimately ended up on Radio in 2012. In 2013 I won Best OnAir Radio Host at the QCA’s. Since 2020 I have been acting having starred in videos from DaBaby, Big 30, Summer Walker and others as well as doing videos/skits with major influencers like Kountry Wayne and TashaFrom4thward. Most recently I am a recurring cast member on TvOne’s dating reality show TheONE executive produced by Kirk and Tammy Franklin.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend Imani and I are both in the corporate world but both also have creative aspirations. A good time out for us is hitting up any special or invite only events, networking and catching great footage for each other for our social media…throw in some high end shopping and some food hookah and drinks and that’s a good day lol.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Always dedicate my success to my Grandparents. Had it not been for them I wouldn’t be who I am today. I would really like to dedicate this article to 4 very close friends I list this year Brandy Maddox, Tasha Martin, Regina Greene and Zenatte Austin. I know if you guys were here you would be cheering me on. Love you always.
