We had the good fortune of connecting with Shuna White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shuna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am big on taking risk. My entire teen and adulthood life has consisted of taking risk. If you don’t take risk then are you really living? Everything you do in life is a risk, a chance of an uncertain outcome so why not just do it. Forget the thought of “it won’t work” and adapt the mindset of it will work because I am going to take the necessary steps to ensure it works. Wayne Gretzky. said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” and I am taking ALL the shots.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I definitely fall under a wide variety of different professional careers. I own 3 business currently: The Graphix Guru & Company, OGHH, and my new baby SVN LLC. All in which I impulsively started. That goes back to my “I take all the shots” mindset. I will literally wake up one morning with a grand idea and execute it fully. Crazy right? But it works, trial and error really works. Over my 26 years of living I have had a wide range of businesses/hobbies some that generated revenue and others that I never saw my initial investment back and I am 100% okay with that. Taking these risk have gotten me where I am today, all of my current businesses are successful start ups. Graphics? I am 7 years in the game. Clothing/Retail? I am 5 years in the game. Now SVN my newly established business and I am projecting success for it as well, why? how? Because I am determined to win. I wake up every morning with the “can do” mentality. Nothing has come easy, please don’t be mislead…social media in our generation paints the picture that entrepreneurship is this glamorous luxury life, well I will be the first to tell you that it is everything but that…especially when you are a small business. This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way! I want people to take away from me the idea of having true “tunnel vision”. Entrepreneurship is a different lifestyle, like another world outside of the one we currently live in and if you do not keep tunnel vision you will miss your shot to win. In simpler terms, if you focus too much on what others in your same industry are doing, you will lose sight of what is in your lane destined specifically for you. To break it down even more, you can never get full by staring at another persons plate. Tunnel vision is the mood for 2021 and the years to come, I knew when starting my businesses that there were a billion other businesses out there offering similar if not the same services/products as me, but guess what? They weren’t doing it like me, and thats always going to be my advantage. I am the only one in my lane. My “Hey Shuna” mentorship/coaching platform launching July 2021 will assist entrepreneurs who struggle with having that kind of confidence. The confidence in knowing that what is for you will always be for you no matter who else is doing it. Stay tuned.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am still kind of new to living in Atlanta so I only know about a few spots and the pandemic has halted all of my “outside” activities..but if my best friend was visiting we would go do brunch at Milk & Honey at least 1 day out of the week, the vibe there is amazing and the food is even better. Cascade on Sunday is most definitely still a go, who doesn’t love a good skate night outing? We love selfies so the Selfie Museum would be a must so we can get some cute pics to post on our socials.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and my kids deserve all the recognition, without them I would not wake up and go half as hard as I do everyday. I am patiently waiting on the day I can call my mom up and tell her “Sis, quit the job…the bag is secured.” No, but seriously just the desire to give my mom and kids the life they deserve is everything to me, I have to give them all the credit. My kids get to watch me go hard everyday to create generational wealth so that they don’t have to “get it out the mud”…so that I can pass down businesses, properties, land, etc…you know the whole thing…I dedicate all of my success and work ethic to them, its literally all for them.
