We had the good fortune of connecting with Shumonte Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shumonte, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Disaster Response/Relief doesn’t just happen when a Natural Disaster happens. The Process for mitigations is year-round, because the recovery efforts normally take 3-5 years.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Shumonte Cooper is a retired army veteran and CEO at Christ is Relief inc, a humanitarian aid organization of which he is the founder. With over 12 years of experience in Disaster Response and Relief, Cooper has earned many accolades and certifications, gaining invaluable experience in the process. During this time, he has earned the Kentucky Colonel recognition for Humanitarian assistance alongside winning the Humanitarian of the Year award in 2022 and, most recently, being presented with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

Naturally drawn to challenges, high-energy environments, and humanitarianism, Cooper made the choice to undertake Disaster Training at Harvard University before continuing to expand his knowledge in Disaster Recovery and WMD/Terrorism Awareness Emergency Response at Texas A&M Engineering.

Cooper is fully OSHA, and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Certified and has One Silver and two Gold Presidential Volunteer Service awards.

Currently, he offers his experience and talents to the non-profit sector by heading Christ is Relief Inc which aims to relieve both financial and resource burdens on those in need while offering them opportunities to rebuild both themselves and their communities. Through his devotion to humanitarianism, Cooper aims to continue making the world a better place,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if your come to Athens GA, Definity check out a Bulldogs Game, being National Champs and all. A good Paintball Arena fun should be on the list as well. You can always catch good food spots in town like Mama’s Boy, Georges Lowcountry table or De Palmas Italian Cafe. It’s so much to do in the great state of Ga that is a must. You can’t come to GA and not experience Atlanta, The Food, The history and…the traffic.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
