We had the good fortune of connecting with Shon Ski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shon, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
It’s really evened out for me in the very important areas of my life. It wasn’t a super conscious decision to work for myself, more so circumstance fr. The ways I get to be more involved with my children makes it easier to delve into my work. My family is super supportive, and they understand my process. I just feel like it took for me to solely focus on building my career, instead having having to work 9-5 and be a full time mom. I do my best to be intentional in everything I do, I feel a certain sense of peace now tho. I don’t always see that but I’m reflective and I can honestly say it’s true. Still a work in progress, so I’m learning to trust myself more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out doing radio in mid 2016 here in Baltimore. The arts district, I met Karlito and he took me on this ride. My artistry predates to senior year and meeting Markus, he took me to his studio and made me into an actual artist. Did the group thing for a minute, it didn’t work out. For a while I felt lost, then I met TayLife from Miami. He heard me sing and we started vibing to some music he’d send me. I built up my confidence from that. Then the whole switch up came and I started doing media. I got pregnant in 2016, so I had to give music a backseat. Freeze invited me to be a segment host on “Late Nights With Lay” and it altered transitioned into our own show (well his) “Strong Way”. That was a awesome time in my life I enrolled in Full Sail University and majored in Audio Production. I got a better understanding of being an indie artist and felt I could utilize all of this into my career. It all made sense. My brothers Party & 64 are artists so we popped out together at open mics, studios you name it. I maintained my media career until about 2019 with my own YouTube series “ThirdWorldTV” which also featured my brother. That’s also the year I met Bari and my whole life changed. I really got heavy into being in the studio creating and that’s where we’ birthed my debut album “Somewhere Out There”. Don’t get me wrong I put out singles between 2017-19. I was working with my child’s father and it kept getting in the way of the goal. But anyway, post releasing my album. I created a natural hair and skin brand called HairSki, and I swear by it. Essentially I’ve explored so many different sides of building myself into the creative I am today, but I’m finding myself. But trust in your process is what I can say, your journey can take you to places you may not understand but trust it’s all in alignment. Also I have a another project coming soon, with Madi. Low that I’m so excited for called “Sounds of Love”. My growth has been so phenomenal and I’m just blessed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Listen, I’ll say this. I really love visiting Hampden, so many restaurants and crystal shops, boutiques you name it. The arts districts are always a vibe, Charles Village, Station North and Highland Town. Canton is always gorgeous and such a fun time. Oh and Harbor East. Ppl, I love me a Whiskey Girl Event, she does amazing things all throughout the DMV.
