We had the good fortune of connecting with Shiron Diaz-Durr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shiron, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Interior Decorating & Design is much more than finding pretty and attractive items to outfit a space. From the outside looking in, most just see the “after”, but are not aware of the meticulous planning and time that goes into each project.  As a designer, I have to be focused and allow the creative process to unfold organically and intentionally so that the end result makes sense.  Time planning, space planning, budget planning and logistics are huge considerations in every project.  The process is exciting, rewarding and extremely satisfying once complete, but the pre-work is just that…work!  There are long days, nights and weekends and numerous trips to vendors and stores; as well as client calls and check-ins to keep them involved and informed, but it’s also a rewarding and enjoyable process that I am passionate about and love to take on.  When you follow your passion and do what you love; then every day that you work at it, feels like you’re working towards your dream, personal goals and passion.  It doesn’t feel like a chore or burden, but rather a dream job that you so happen to receive payment for 🙂

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My field, Interior Decorating and Home Staging, is a form of art that allows me to help clients find ways to express who they are and what they love through decorating.

Finding pieces of decor is more than just shopping for furniture; it’s a way to reflect personal taste and creat harmony in the home. Colors, lighting, placement and textiles are elements that have importance in setting a room. When done correctly you can either create peace or create chaos. When someone hires me as an Interior Decorator it’s usually because they are not sure how to put a space together that is cohesive and attractive. This is where I come in, to help create that balance. I love being able to bring joy to a clients home that they otherwise would not find purpose and enjoyment in.

Finding my passion was not difficult; but deciding to go into it as a business was. I would find myself offering my services at no cost because I had not yet understood the value behind the service. Decorating comes naturally to me; I would do it all day for fun and enjoyment, so to decide to go into business and offer as a service was a stretch.   Getting certified and understanding the business side of this career helped me to put that into perspective.

My brand and story are about creating beautiful harmony through art and decor. To curate pieces that are a mix of unique and new, timeless and well traveled.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I am originally from CT (tri-state area) and have lived in Atlanta for 12 years. When friends and family visit I love to take them to a brunch spot in Alpharetta called Hen Mother Cookhouse.  The food, music and staff are incredible!  For dinner and drinks I love Two Urban Licks becuase it is in the city and very vibey and moody.

For casual strolling, the Atlanta Beltline is always fun and eclectic and there are lots of bars and shops to pop in and out of.

My favorite thing to do with friends and family is expose them to the thrill and adventure of antique/vintage shopping.  There are several places in the area I love to bring friends and family to as a way to introduce them to antiquing. Westside Market, Queen of Hearts, City Antiques and Interiors are a few of my faves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My passion for what I do comes from watching my mom as a young child. I emulated her and what she did, without ever knowing that deep down a seed was being planted. My mom was the one everyone looked to for inspiration on how to style and decorate their home and apartments. Watching her inspired my interest in decorating rooms and spaces. At the time she didn’t know that she was nurturing a desire and passion for my artistry in the home. And to me, I was just mirroring my mom.

My second shotout goes to my husband who encouraged me to follow my passion and has always been my biggest supporter. He suggested I go after what I’m passionate about and to not be afraid to try. I decided to get a professional certification in my field during Covid lockdown and am so fortunate to have had his support and encouragement. My 9-5 is in corporate America, & I am great at what I do there, but my passion is in decorating and interiors.  He helped me see outside the box and pursue what excites me!
