We had the good fortune of connecting with Shevy Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shevy, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I have learned from being a business owner is creating boundaries. Learning to create these boundaries has been a journey within itself because of my nature and the person that I am. Being that I am kind and extremely helpful I sometimes forget that I must create boundaries to ensure that I continue to be the best version of myself. It’s ok to say no, to take days off, to have office hours, to go on vacation and have a set schedule even if you are an entrepreneur..

My best piece of advice is to create the boundaries necessary for you to provide the best service possible to your customers so you do not become jaded and fall out of love with the things you are passionate about and do it unapologetically.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been taking pictures for over 10 years. I have done press at comic cons, taken pictures for fashion shows hosted by BET and have cultivated relationships with clients that I have been doing business with for over 5 years. I am just grateful that I still love being a photographer and I have not lost my passion for creating. There has been many days that I thought about throwing in the towel and giving up. But I feel like photography keeps me creative and makes me happy and I could never give it up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great places to go in Detroit

We would go to the RiverWalk, Sugar House, Green Dot Stables, Ride scooters downtown, go to voyager for oysters in Ferndale. Go to Great Lakes Crossing and Somerset Mall. Basically we would do a whole bunch of shopping, eating and drinking. Due to the pandemic summer festivals and concerts are out of the question.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have contributed to my success and the growing confidence I have in myself and my future endeavors. Over the last few months due to the pandemic I have recently started streaming on Twitch playing video games, hosting games night with my friends and even starting my own movie review show called 2 Snaps and A Circle with my good friend Latoya Colts. I just wanted to shoutout my twitch community Dj Stacye J, Clarknoved and so many other great streamers who have helped me get through the pandemic and also discovering a new love in addition to photography. The Black streamer community on Twitch, Facebook and Youtube are great and everyone should at least check it out.
