We had the good fortune of connecting with SHERRI JOHNSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SHERRI, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My brand is built on Agape (love). My first example of love was my Granny. She loved all she encountered. Her example helped me understand that love is the foundation of how we thrive in life. When I first started my business, it steamed from a place of needing to share my love in an untraditional way, allowing my love in the form of jewelry to be passed from me to my customers and then to their loved ones. When love is received, it encourages, inspires, motivates, uplifts, and reassures those on the receiving end. I use The House of Agape to encourage those I encounter. My goal is to remind my customers (loves) that all is just as it should be and everything will be ok no matter the situation. Although I make pieces for men, women, and children, I’ve encountered so many women who need to be reminded that we must first love ourselves before showing up to love others. Because of that, I have been more intentional at encouraging the women I encounter. Ultimately I want The House of Agape to be a place that women can disconnect for a minute to focus solely on themselves. A safe house if you will that is full of love and light.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As I mentioned I make custom jewelry, custom waist beads and sell Authentic African waist beads. The thing that makes my pieces different is that at The House of Agape we tell a story with our pieces and more so with our charms. I call us walking wind chimes. When we hear our charms, we are reminded that we make our own music and do not wait for others to validate the beat of our drums. Our charms are used to encourage and affirm us daily. I always tell my customers (loves) to select charms and beads with meaning so when we hear the sound, we are reminded of what we need to show up in this world. As a creative I want to ensure that when my customers leave The House of Agape, they are empowered to show up for themselves first and their loved ones next because life changes daily. We must stay conditioned to deal with those changes.

People are waiting for us to show up but we must first show up for self-first.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my loved ones come to town, they must visit my gym (Effect Fitness) with me. The energy and community are unmatched, and I want to ensure they understand why I love it so much. I also like to take nature hikes as Atlanta has some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen with so many local trails. For the most part, I am a homebody, so I typically ask them what they would like to do and accommodate their wishes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?                                                                                            Everyone has been so loving and encouraging with my business. However, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my Aunt Kim. She transitioned a few years back and her birthday is in September, just seems fitting.  Her love and support keeps me motivated when I get discouraged or am too hard on myself. When I first started making bracelets years ago, my Auntie supported me to no end. Every time I would go home to visit, she’d place a new order. There was never a time I visited that she wasn’t wearing her pieces and would always say to me – “Niece, your jewelry is my favorite outside of my wedding ring.”

Her comforting words when things weren’t going as I had planned for my business still speak life into The House of Agape. Her favorite saying was – give it time, don’t rush it, and what’s for you will find you in due time. Although I believe there is so much more in store for Agape, what is intended for me is still on my trail and will eventually catch up with me. To have someone believe in your brand more than you at times is a gift that can’t be overlooked. I am eternally grateful for my Auntie’s love and support.
