Meet Sherita Moham | Positive Energy & Mental Health Awareness Podcaster

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherita Moham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherita, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My mother had Alzheimers. The experiences that I had with her led me to create a platform to encourage individuals to seek professional help for mental health illness. Because this is such a heavy topic, I made the podcast light-hearted by adding encouraging people to sow 3 seeds of positive energy each day. Which are: 1) Do something nice; 2) Say something nice; and 3) Think about something nice. I figured sowing seeds of positive energy could help individuals cultivate their mental health gardens. Random helpful tips and suggestions for different activities completes the podcast.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My background makes me feel at ease with podcasting in front and behind the scenes. I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science and A.A.S. in Television Production Technology along with a plethora of certifications. I play the piano, clarinet and currently learning how to play the guitar. I’m a freelancer. My job titles include: audio engineer, network engineer, poet, photographer, writer, author, host, videographer, podcast creator, editor and producer.
Even though I have all of these talents and skills, it took me a couple of years to put out my first episode. Just deciding on the logo, took me about 6 months. I wanted something that would be memorable. My graphic artist, Randall Frye and I created “Sheeba”. She’s a brain with eyelashes, earrings, a peace shirt and her toenails are painted. You can’t help but to love her and everyone that sees her does! “Sheeba” ties together the concept of positive energy and mental health. I am so proud of our creation!
After that, it was time to focus on the first episode. I didn’t know what I was going to talk about. So, this is when my talents, skills and experiences all came together. I came up with the topic “Loving Yourself”. I introduced the podcast, talked about loving yourself and finished with one of my original pieces of poetry called “To Whom It May Concern”. I stumbled a little bit but I got through taping my first episode. This was another proud moment for me.
I’ve gotten more comfortable and have learned that flexibility is the key in order for this podcast to be successful. I may have to sometimes deviate from the script but with positive energy and mental health awareness always my main focus, everything should be ok.
I know that mental health is not an easy topic. The more we talk about it, deal with it and not just ignore it, the stigmatism associated with it will eventually go away.
Mind Therapy Podcast is now in its 3rd Season and has shown up in several places: France, Mexico, Honduras, Turks & Caicos, Grand Cayman, India, Bahamas, Jamaica, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Nevada, California and Florida. Please join me in spreading positive energy and mental health awareness all around the world.
