We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherilynn Marilyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherilynn, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Hello voyagers. It’s so nice to make your acquaintance. My name is SherilynnMarilyn, I am a Auntie Mom, Entrepreneur, Creative Director, Beauty Concierge and VP of a new streaming platform, residing in Atlanta, GA. I was curated in California East LA Compton to be exact. My Mom and Dad did their best to give us a well-rounded life full of love, education, and happy memories with the resources that they were given.
My mom was a mathematical genius, graduating high school at 15 and accepted into Morris Brown at a early age but with a change of events migrated to the west and began working with the family business my Great Uncles and Aunties owned. She was also on the PTA at our school, like she was a really involved mom in our early upbringing and made sure that we had a strong spiritual foundation. After having me she was a single Mom for a while and then meet my Dad.
My Dad was a magician with mechanics. he worked from home and I thought taking things apart and putting them back together renewed was the coolest thing so I would be his little helper, sometimes after school. Dad would make sure that if my Mom couldn’t be there he picked us up or dropped us off on his Harley, make sure we got dinner and in bed on time. They would seamlessly work together as a team teaching us life lessons with purpose and love. I still use a few of those lessons that I learned in my younger years today. I thank them for that.
At that time I never really imagined growing up without them together…
Shortly after the riots in LA due to the Rodney King beating and racial Injustice the looting prompted our relocation to Atlanta.
Watching my parents impacted my life positively and not so positive at times, LOL. But, I decided to take the good and use it to my advantage. My dad really loved what he did, and my mom always followed her passion and they both stayed fly like effortlessly always on point with the threads and personal style. My mom’s hair was always unique trendy yet classic her nails were always done with colors and designs like Flo-Jo she didn’t wear a whole lot of makeup but she was always polished, fresh brows, mascara and berry lip color. Very Afro centric and didn’t believe in relaxers.
My dad he was a very masculine man, I thought he was the coolest. He loved my Mom and worked hard, he loved to eat good food, spend time with his family, and his personal style was really on point with hip hop and cool lounge wear like matching jogging suits and sneakers, but he cleaned up well when he put his suit on. He kept a fresh clean cut, but would let his hair grow out sometimes. His hair thick and soft, like he took good care of it.
One day, not sure when, he decided to grow a rat tail, lol, and that’s how I started to learn how to cornrow. You see, every morning before school he would ask me to freshen him up and after a while I got really Good. Then Mom let me style my own hair, then, my lil sister, then her hair with extensions and one time she wore them to work, they were so horrible but she was so proud of me… I can go on for days but My flare stems from them.
How they presented themselves to me and my younger sister created a foundation that helped me to birth the passions that are now My light My love My life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
i own a natural hair salon close to the hartsfield airport. and a tlc health and wellness distributor. I personally feel as a creative everyone has their own personal stamp or should i say fingerprint. I am me and there are no too alike My name is one of a kind and the experience is all me – It cant be duplicated. To answer your question about difficulty, it wasn’t easy! It took a many of moons to get to a place where my art can comfortably sustain my life and my family.
The challenges were varied, I mean like really difficult with a series of events that most wouldn’t survive the stress. From emotional trials, self development, multiple deaths, breakups, restarting my life, becoming a aunty Mom overnight… Have you ever had something so tragic happen that it would change your whole world It’s crazy wild to see where we were and were we are now, we are so so Blessed.
My motivation was to heal and break every chain that was holding me back, my personal drive to see my goals in the flesh is ongoing – I wanted to say out loud look at what you’ve done and be extremely proud of myself and I Am but me and God not done yet.
Some of the lessons I’ve learned are:
1. Invest: My biggest investment was believing in me even when I thought IT was impossible
2. I keep pushing even when it hurts, and even when there’s darkness i follow the light
3. Take time to rest but keep moving
4. Appreciate the moments and people along the way
5. Make sure I show me some love too- celebrate the wins and learn from the lessons
I want the world to know that I am here to accept the bold and worry free collaborations that are key to our success and I am looking forward to building more visual content with quality brands, creatively working together internationally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok so for my peoples coming in from out of town I would like to show em a little bit of everything and that just depends on how much time we have Ok! Atlanta is known for having the best eats and hidden attractions like its always something to do. We would have to jump into something to eat, drink and experience something new everyday – we will need a separate vacation just to relax, lol. Lets go get something to eat\drink and celebrate the visit, at a relaxed but chic and international Mediterranean spot close to the airport then a little light shopping in various areas like little 5, Pounce City Market, Atlantic Station, etc. but I also like boutiques \specialty stores, designer closets, and consignment shops thrifting I found around town. Now that we have our wardrobe taken care of for the week we can grab a bite and a drink at the Tastee Spoon- nice Caribbean space, good food great music mingle and people watch.
Through out the week we would have to venture out on a nature trail I like to visit the one in Roswell but we have about 15 here close to the city, go to the city winery for a show in old fourth-ward. I definitely would take them to the Woodroof art center for a live\virtual symphony, High museum, the civil rights museum, botanical gardens – we must visit them all and that would take a few days. We have to find the time to visit the little spot I was introduced to not to long ago called Rock Steady off Marietta street and shake a tail feather. We would have to visit slutty vegan off Auburn or Jonesboro and the hot dog Factory Downtown, excellent for a nice drink and semi-healthy comfort food (lol). And If we have some time and energy left lets go to the Aquarium, and enjoy each others company looking at the wildlife and calming waters with meaningful conversations, laughter, and Love.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my Auntie Dorothy we call her Dottie. After my Mom and Dad passed away I was lost in grief, for a minute. She’s my person, my go to, my bestie, my warrior, my Auntie-Mom, My Aunt Dot. I don’t know what life would be like if I didn’t have her too. She is my rock. I love that lady. She’s so inspiring, she’s fly she’s confident she’s bold she’s reassured she’s grounded she gives me great advice she lets me be all of Me, she’s been there for my achievements and I thank her very much for keeping me close to her heart I know she has other nieces and nephews but I don’t like to share and they know that LOL. Love you Auntie
