We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheretta Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheretta, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Do you love it? Does it feed you, your soul, in a way nothing else does? Would you do it even if you weren’t getting paid? I believe when it comes to your passion, you should answer those questions before giving up. Personally, what photography does for me can’t compare to anything else. I know there are a lot of things to take in consideration when making that decision, but what i’m willing to sacrifice to keep picking up the camera tells me to keep going. Ask yourself what are you willing to sacrifice then I believe you’ll have your answer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the last five years, i’ve specialized in portraiture. I love working with small businesses, entrepreneurs and artists aiming to market themselves in creative ways.I’ve also spent that time volunteering my services to local non-profits serving the Atlanta community. From photographing, event planning, and offering a hand when needed, i’ve fed my love for giving and helping others. I believe in what you put out is what you get, and the time, dedication, and sacrifices i’ve made to get here is well worth it. This hasn’t been an easy journey but my faith and persistence has got me to this point. I’ve definitely learned and still learning the art of resilience and patience. Recently, i’ve been focusing on combining both photography and philanthropy. I’d love for my art not just to be visual pleasing, but make a difference in my community. Like alot artists, i’m letting my heart lead me. I have a few ideas of what that looks like so stay tuned!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Brunch is always a much in Atlanta. I don’t have a favorite spot yet, but you can never go wrong with bottomless mimosas. Depending on the season of year, i’d suggest live music or sporting events and if we’re looking for something more relaxing Jeju is always a go to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To every creative and artist i’ve had the pleasure of working with, from the bottom of my heart thank you. Many days I had to feed off others energy, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without y’all.
