We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheree Almeida and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheree, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I have a few endeavors going right now, but the job that pays the bills is freelance Graphic Design. My small design company is INCO Designs. The other is Vivid Dreams Publishing, which is in it’s infancy at the moment.

One thing about my industry (Design) that outsiders are unaware of is the amount of money one makes in this industry. People think I get a windfall with every client, but it’s quite the opposite. I do get paid very well by most of my clients, but there are also clients that I do things for free. And I do that because I want everyone to win. I think there is room for all of us. Another misconception is that anyone can do graphic design. Granted, there are many apps, and programs out there one can use for basic things, but to know to the meat of design, such as doing layer masks, using brushes, understanding the difference between vector vs. bitmap, and understanding how important typography on a design is, is something you can’t learn with those apps and programs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It took a lot of time and effort to get to where I am today. As referenced in a previous question, I have two loves; Writing, and Graphic Design. Me getting to where I’ve gotten today has not been easy. I have four children and they have always come first, before anything. I suppose that’s why I’m almost 50 and still pursuing my ultimate dreams. But, having the right connections makes a world of difference!

The lessons I’ve learned today in regards to my writing is to not give up. I love it, I have so many stories swirling around in my head that I want to share with everyone, Sometimes being creative isn’t just something you want to be, it’s something that many of us NEED to be. It’s like therapy for a lot of us. I’m lucky in that, I’ve found a way to sort of merge books, writing, and graphic design together. I’m able to use my skills with both. The bulk of work I get is from other authors, and from word of mouth, I pick up other clients that need things like package and website design.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would like to check out an art museum and some of the night life Atlanta has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Michael Thaxton has been a tremendous help. My oldest son, my clients, and my readers.
