We had the good fortune of connecting with Shenika The Stylist and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shenika, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because growing up as a youth I always loved art. I loved coloring in my coloring books, and in school one of my favorite classes was art class. I love and respect art for what it is and to me art is beautiful! I grew up admiring the beauty of art and I started to draw and paint pictures of different things around me. I also have a passion for all things beauty and fashion so everything that I do always includes those things.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was a little Jamaican girl with a dream. I wanted my family and I to live a better life which made me very determined to accomplish my goals. I worked hard and never gave up on what I wanted and believed in. The journey wasn’t easy but I stayed strong as the queen that I am. As a stylist I believe that our hair is our crown! I love my natural beauty and natural hair! I embrace my locs and I help others to see the beauty of their natural hair as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love art but I also love music! I love good music! My favorite type of music is reggae! I am definitely a big fan of anything that includes reggae and good music so I would take my best friend to a Caribbean lounge where they will have good music and good food. Since I been here in Atlanta I noticed that there’s a lot of parks and small shops that I also like to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first give thanks to the most high my creator, because he has always been by my side though everything that I been through and I would always give him the praise that he deserves! I would also like to thank my family and friends for all the love and support they have given to me through my career.
