We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I have always had a heart for cheering others on, whether it be an individual or a team. The thought of personally setting a goal and having it come to fruition is what drives me. The idea of having a small intimate fitness studio that allowed for this encouragement, cheering, goal setting, and community all in one was inspirational to me.

I wanted to provide a positive atmosphere for exercise for women of all ages by building relationships. I am a small group person – an introverted / extrovert. I want to “know you” and your story – and use that relationship to learn what drives a client?

Every person has a “why” behind their willingness to suit up and show up and work hard at their workout. Tapping into their “why” is the motivating factor behind my work.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lulu Belle Studio is a small intimate fitness studio located in the heart of Marietta GA. The heart behind our business is encourgment and relationsips. We concentrate on building up the client by pushing hard – but mostly being an atmomsphere where you want to be. The community that has developed over the years is what sets it apart. It has transformed womens relationship with exercise from I “have to” into “I get to”.

Lulu Belle isn’t just a workout – we desire to get to know you. For you to have a place where others on your “team” share in the “hard”. The hard being the workout – as well as the hard that life brings.

For 50 mins we take away the outside distractions, we create an environment that you have to FOCUS so you are not thinking of anything else other than the present moment. We build you up by encouraging you to give it your all and to stay consistent. Self discipline is a strength that we love to celebrate.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and some really close friends who remain annonymous.

This dream of mine to own my own studio came about years before it actually became a reality. It was my husband, Roddy who listened to all of my ideas and plans – all of the dreaming and doubting – all of the exctiing and all of the hard. He never once doubted my ability to make this a reality. Roddy has stood beside me from the very first mention to today – he continues to ask me daily how was every single class I teach. He encourages me when I need the extra push. He allows me to have hard days, and continues to lead me.

Secondly I would like to dedicate the business to some great friends who spurred me on and helped make Lulu Belle. They said “lets make it happen” and we did. These friends of ours continue to be some of the most generous people we know to date. Their drive to be successful has certainly fueled my desire to work hard. I am humbled when I think of the kindness they have showed to Roddy and myself over the years. Truly a gift.
