We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheldon Dennie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheldon, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Listen to your inner dialogue. What’s the story you’re telling yourself? It starts with being honest with yourself. If a goal, project, person, or business no longer makes you happy or feels aligned with your values, that’s where you step back & reassess. I believe if you’ve a goal based on what YOU want for your best self, never.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe being invested in anime helped sparked my own originality & inspired me to start drawing. I started drawing at as early an age I can remember. I loved drawing anime characters so much I designed my own. Was always doing something artsy, whether it be in my free time or in the middle of a class. I had no siblings so I spent much time entertaining myself a lot. It’s funny, I especially loved cameras, & was a very visual person & learner. Many of my childhood hobbies & interests are an amalgam of my career & creative direction.

I started a Youtube channel before it became the trend & fell in love with the idea of having an outlet to express myself & creativity through hair/self-care content. This expanded over time & organically turned out to be my niche across other social media platforms. To say whether it was easy or not is tricky, because when you do something you love, seldom is it hard, but that’s a mindset thing. That’s not to say I haven’t had my struggles as every creator does. Mine would easily be imposter syndrome. As any artist would agree, we’re own worst critic, but being aware of how far I’ve come as well as the influence/impact I’ve had on my community is something that has helped me create peace a& combat that. That’s what I’m most proud of; being a positive influence & helping others. Inspiring others. From here, it’s only up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
man first thing we’re doing is hitting up allll the good eats. Chai Yo has the best modern thai I’ve ever had. Slutty Vegan is a whole experience within itself. Soul Vegan, Flower Child, Cafe Sunflower, I could go onnnn. The High Museum of Atlanta is beautiful, Ponce, Atlanta’s Botanical Garden, plenty of nature spots, Midtown/Buckhead for night action.. Atlanta just spoils you with it all. The southern hospitality makes it so that no matter where you go, you’re likely gonna have a good time

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family first and foremost. Mom, grandmother, & dad. I could really go on. Having a truly supporting family is most definitely a privilege & blessing I’ll never take for granted. Second, my audience/ supporters. As a creator, its common to get in your own way, but essentially having an army of people around the world who’ve never physically met you but consistently love & support what you have to share is truly heartwarming.
