We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking can be incredibly daunting, but I think that learning to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, like taking a risk knowing you may fail, is how you have growth. I took a risk leaving my in person coaching job, where I was offered to run a department, to step into my current role as an Assistant Coach for Level TEN Coaching, with no clients. I knew it would be a risk, but it was one I felt was worth taking, and here I am 2 years later, thriving and loving the decision I made!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are a LOT of coaches out there in the fitness and nutrition industry, and even more so online with the growing social media trends. I feel what sets myself and my team apart is not letting the “trendy” and “catchy” hot topics deter us from what we know is the stuff that actually works. No fad diets, no BS, really continuing to stay above all of that and let people know we are confident in what we do, and why we do it, because it’s the science. I’ve learned there’s plenty out there who will get rich quick off of nonsense quick fixes, but that doesn’t serve the people I want to help. To truly help people, you have to stick to those truths. This isn’t easy in a world that loves instant gratification, but it is always worth it.
Level TEN Coaching is truly different from others in the fitness and nutrition industry. TEN stands for Training, Education, and Nutrition–and that education piece is what we emphasize the most. We send out weekly education emails to our email list, our clients receive voice memos weekly reviewing their goals and always providing education on the WHY behind what you’re doing, and we truly strive to be the last coach you will ever need.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend coming to visit the area, I would likely take them to a few outdoor activities and some local restaurants. Maybe rent some paddle boards from Murph’s Surf off Lake Allatoona, take a hike at Kennesaw Mountain. I would also likely take them to Bizarre Coffee in downtown Canton, that has fun themed drinks, great sandwiches and açaí bowls! Another favorite is Local on North in downtown Canton.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The team I am a part of, Level TEN Coaching, has been such a wonderful influence on continuing my growth in the fitness and nutrition industry. We are a team of ten, and although small, very might. It is a group that is driven in continuing to be the best in the industry, feed off each other and help each other, and continue to educate ourselves to stay up to date on the latest research. My boss, Joelle Cavagnaro, continues to encourage me to pursue what I want to within the industry, and allows me to creatively express myself exactly as I am, and I am so thankful for that. My husband, Stone, has also supported me in every step along the way, never doubting my decision to become a fully remote coach versus working in person. I couldn’t do this without him! And lastly, my girl gang has continued to cheer me on and encourage me in all ways, and honestly, we all need a girl gang that hypes you up for the small wins!
