We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila Carrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is such an important factor in my life. The one thing I know for sure if I don’t try something, I will never know the outcome. I will say, I don’t consider my decisions as risks. I view it as stepping out on faith. My faith has been strengthened and tested many times over the course of my adult life. The one thing I’ve learned is, without it I would not be able to move forward through times of trials. I have a question that I ask myself that makes stepping out on faith a bit easier. I ask myself, what is the worst that could happen if this isn’t the right choice or change. With that, I am able to stand firmly in my decisions. I’ve now mentally eliminated the presence of the fear of what could happen if I fail. From this point, it is full speed ahead.

My latest decision to step out on faith, was me deciding to put my 13 year career path behind me and open my own business. The bridge to faith in this decision was a huge one. I will say, the Father gave me the vision and everything I needed to bring it into fruition. I am now the owner of one of the only black owned touch-less massage spas. There were definitely many moments of my faith being tested on this course to entrepreneurship.
Times where I wasn’t sure if I would be able to follow the full vision for my spa. Now, almost a month into opening, I can say the Father guided me fully through and all of my vision has come to pass.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Yes, I would love to. The Wine Down Spa offers an innovative approach to relaxation and muscle rejuvenation.  We are the only black owned touchless spa in the southeast region.  However, we are not your traditional spa as all of our treatments are completely touchless. Yes, touchless!  We offer an array of services for relaxation, rejuvenation, and renewal.  The spa offers zero gravity massage, aromatherapy & reflexology, and a steam sauna room. Our goal is to provide a fully touchless relaxation experience that leaves you feeling 100% rejuvenated. To enhance your relaxation, a complimentary beverage is offered with each treatment. You are able to choose from a variety of wine, hot herbal tea, and water.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to take a friend for a week long trip, it would definitely include relaxation. First, we would visit Rochelle place and grab a cup of joe and a pastry for breakfast. I could see going to a local park for a morning stroll and then breakfast. Since I love to cook, I would probably prepare us lunch and head out for manicures and pedicures afterward. Once night time arrived, we would look for a nice open mic poetry event in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first give credit to the Heavenly Father. This path would not have been paved or possible without his will. There have definitely been individuals that have encouraged me, lent a hand, and prayed for me on this journey. I am thankful for each and every person that has done so.
