We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheena Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheena, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel that taking risk is a essential apart of life, because without risk there is no reward. I took risk when I had a new born and decided to leave my nail suite to spend the first year of life with her. As I was preparing to get back into the industry I got into a car accident and broke 3 out of 4 of my limbs. One being my right wrist, which i used daily, as well as to perform nail artistry. Due to me not being able to walk, nor do nails, I looked around me to see what made me happy. JEWELRY, SHINNY ICY JEWELRY i must say. I risked starting a whole new business venture, Dripping Jewls! And it has been one of the most satisfying business ventures yet!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dripping Jewls is a jewelry company that provides high quality fashion jewelry for everyone! One thing that sets me apart from other fashion jewelry businesses, is that we offer REAL GOLD grilz. This is a new addition to Dripping Jewls, that I am so excited about. I am proud to say that Dripping Jewls is still here, surviving the pandemic and all of the things that are currently going on in the world today. I am also proud of my beginning and where I am now, looking back at all the changes and upgrades I have made along the way makes me so proud! I got to where I am today by not giving up, even when the sales for the day were zero, I still made it my business to get up the next day and still promote and push my content out to the public. This was not a easy task for me, starting this business not being able to walk nor use both of my hands, and still pushing forward each day. I overcame these challenges by pushing myself and staying consistent. I am also excited for my newest business venture becoming a Doula. A Doula is a non medical support person for a expecting mom. After discovering that my great great grandmother was a midwife, i understood why the love for assisting birthing woman and families came so natural to me. Lessons that I have learned along the way is to just start whatever it is that you want to do, and perfect it later. When I started Dripping Jewls I had the vision for what i wanted, but i had to work a little harder to get there. I would like the world to know that you don’t have to have millions of dollars to be an ICY GIRL, we got you! A lot of celebrities aren’t spending A BAG on their jewelry, like you think.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from Charleston SC and if my bestie (which is also my children’s god mother) came into town on a Friday the itinerary would be dinner at Bourbon’s and Bubbles, I personally don’t eat meat so i would start off with Bruschetta for an app, for dinner I would do the Black Bean Burger. B & B has one of the best black bean burgers I’ve ever had so far. We wouldn’t leave without having bubbles the Charleston is one of my fave cocktails there, and my favorite cocktail is a Mojito! We would visit the lounges in the area Ink, and Republic has a nice vibe and atmosphere. We’d spend time walking downtown and riding bike taxis. As the trip progress we would visit Martini Me for martinis and small plates, we’d visit parks, one of my favorite parks is the Mt. Pleasant Waterfront park with the children . This park is very unique as the playground is underneath the bridge, and you can walk the pier and view the ocean. And we can’t forget the beach, on a nice cool evening. I am big on family we would also spend sometime with family laughing, eating, and playing games. I tried to leave this out, but my bestie and I both love to shop, so doing some shopping at the Mall, Tanger Outlet, and boutiques would be something we’d do as well. Shopping and glittery things make us both happy! I am a very chill person, I love a good vibe, music and drama free atmosphere!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my family! Many of them knowingly and unknowingly have encouraged many of my creative business ventures. From my God Mother getting her scraped gold made into nice pieces for me, my aunt working in the beauty industry my entire childhood. And as i grew older, my significant other Antwan, and our children Laina, and Lani have been my models and huge support system. I can’t end this shoutout without recognizing two of my most supportive cousins, who have been there to support each business venture i have started Kori, and Jocelyn! I am forever grateful for my support team, I love you all!
