We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheeda DB and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheeda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
So I’ve always wanted more, not in a the grass is greener type of way, but hopeful for the future type of way. I’ve always loved cooking and serving my family and friends! Their reactions to my food always warmed my heart so I know I wanted to extend that passion further for a long time now. To know what you’re truly passionate about is half the battle in stating your own business venture. Last year I bought my fist home on my own and soon after I knew I was done with corporate America. I quit and honestly was in total limbo of my next move. But I knew the stresses of working for the man was weighing on me and I had to make a decision to secure my peace so I quit! Now I don’t suggest anyone to just quit their jobs, but we all have to start somewhere. I also knew I had a passion for teaching so I became a kindergarten para. This I still do currently because I just love it and it frees up a lot of time for my other passion and my family. So once I became accustomed to that work schedule I began to work on my cooking craft and it’s truly where I come to find peace and happiness bedsides my family and friends. I know something that has this much passion and drive behind it is bound to be successful so I’m going to continue to put in work and stick to what I love. I’m hopeful of the future it will bring.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think of myself as a one man show when it come to this cooking. I have high hopes of tapping into the returants industry as well as cook books. I already have names for both lol. But for now I love being a content creator and food blogger ! I love teaching others how a a few simple ingredients can turn into full delicious meals that will truly impress like a 5 star restaurant ! Not only do I cook all the meals you see prepared on my YouTube and Instagram channnel, EAT YO SCREEN, I edit and create all the videos as well. though it may look easy it’s not. Well the cooking part is not so hard because I love to make very simple dishes that even us millennials can cook that our grandparents would be so proud of! But the editing is a different beast. I am self taught and I love it. I’m becoming better and better by the day. Just like anything with repetition and time it only gets better. But the main thing is my meals are inexpensive, fresh and easy to prepare you whole family will enjoy! You family will thank you for having more time with them , more savings and a full satisfied belly from these meals guaranteed. I truly think of myself as a cooking sensei because I can teach even my 6 years old to cook delicious shrimp so I know after watching my videos anyone will feel like a master chef.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m originally from Detroit and yes I love my city and it’s cuisine like no other ! I can make endless eateries I have to visit everytime I’m home ! But since we are talking about Atlanta now I too have come to love some of their hot spots and eateries. My favorite thing to do is get dressed up and go for dinner and drinks. The only thing I love doing better than that is doing that same thing on vacation. But here is Atlanta I always take my visitors to the same few places. The juicy crab or Pappadeaux for my seafood lovers, the ubar for a turn up on the bull, wings and shots, and an endless amount of Lounges for a vibe ! Atlanta always has something to do on and given day of the week! If my friends bring the kiddos then the Georgia aquarium is a must. I also love walking Stone Mountain I always find peace at the Top!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My children are my truest motivators ! I first discovered my love for cooking when I was pregnant with my first Son, Rashaad. It was through him that I truly grew up and fast food and coney became a thing of the past. I Began to truly budget and cooked 3 meals a day to feed us. I was a single mom so I didn’t have much support but I knew I wanted him healthy and happy. I believe that’s starts in the kitchen. I moved from Detroit to Atlanta on my own right before I turned 21 because I just wanted to give him a better life. I truly didn’t know which way I was going but For the first time my faith was so high. I relied heavily on God who I give the upmost praise and honor for carrying me so far! When I had my second son, I truly began to explore cuisine further. I literally watched cooking shows all day and I leaned so many different techniques and ingredients! I always tell Ramaah he motivated me to finish my bachelors degree and tap further into my cooking passion. I cooked for both of them all the time and they tried so many different fresh ingredients most children don’t. I even made all his baby food from scratch which I am very proud of! His father and I went through a lot of ups and downs after we had him and eventually split and again I was single and making it happen on my own for my boys. But God has a funny way of doing things because a year ago, we reconciled and it’s been pure bliss every since. Ofcourse with a lot of prayer and counseling. But I’m very thankful to have him on my team because he motivates me so much and believes in all my passions that’s so important In relationships! We are expecting our newest bundle of Joy Feb of 2021 and we couldn’t be happier and more at peace. Though we are not exactly where we want to be financially we are very hopeful of the future and two heads are always better than one! Lastly I want to give a big shoutout to my sisters from different misters! We have been down since high school and Lord I know they are riding with me right or wrong! They uplift me so much and encourage me to go after all that desire ! They give me the inspiration I need when I’m feeling a little discouraged. So thank you Shalita( RIH) , Ashley, She’a , Ieshia and Jalicia ! Idk what I would do with out y’all!
