We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay OmyGod and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shay, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Knowing when it’s time to level up and change the environment. After being in Detroit so long, I knew if I wanted to be bigger & better that I was needing to leave. Get into an uncomfortable place where I didn’t know anyone or where to go, I only knew it was time to go bigger! So I moved to Atlanta!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a celebrity host, entrepreneur, media correspondent, actress, model, I am the connector for all things business, I’m an advocate for children and women of domestic violence…. What I want people to know is it’s never easy starting a business, I run 7 of them, but it’s never easy working for others either. Once I realized that my personality wasn’t going to fit into “Corporate America” office standards, I knew it was time to create my own. The best thing I ever did was bet on me & my abilities. My businesses are deeply rooted in being the change, giving customer service, showing compassion & being relatable! I am successful with branding or networking because I believe in myself and my brand. I believe in showing people how to take nothing & turning it into something.. Being that friendly loving person will always set you apart from others! If you’re going to show up, then show up to show out!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m still learning myself because I just moved here less than 2yrs ago & we’ve been dealing with Covid. But definitely gotta get up Slutty Vegan & the different food trucks, also check the daiquiri spot with the 20 different flavors and Breakfast at Barney’s would be on the list as well..

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe it to my parents… Sadly they both passed away within a year of each other & in the past 2 yrs. Unrelated to Covid… And I’m an only child so this has hit me pretty hard, so unexpected. Mom passed November 19, 2019 then Dad on November 5, 2020. They have made me a well rounded individual that works hard, takes nothing for granted and never expect anything from anyone. Respect others and push for whatever I want. It sucks because I really wanted to buy my mom her Mercedes or mansion or whatever would’ve made them happy. I was on my way… All that I do now is hopefully leave a legacy for my kids and make my parents proud.
